Absolutely brilliant adaptation and a great ensemble cast. I have to single out Eileen Atkins performance as the one which affected me most - the scene where she sits struggling with her ideas of convention as to whether she can attend the funeral in support of her friend is breathtakingly good - so much of what you understand is going on is not dialogue based but entirely down to her performance. This is a comedy DVD from a popular comedian with cleverly scripted material which borders on the offensive, and like many modern stand-up performers often goes for easy and obvious targets. But with Jimmy it like picking a scab - you know you shouldn't do it - but you can't help enjoying it. His timing, and his pace is faultless, and I particularly enjoyed his whimsical thoughts, which with the jazz trio and clouds of smoke seemed almost surreal. There are not many jokes that you could repeat in polite company, but if you want those buy a joke book, or watch someone "safe" like Tim Vine. I Am Legend has a few good points but loads of bad ones. The acting is terrific, Will Smith is very talented. The storyline is very good too but it's just a shame they didn't manage to pull it off the way I thought they would. It was the zombies that really dissapointed me. Once they came out, it turned into some action-horror, making me forget how calm it was before-hand. I know that was the storyline but couldn't they reveal to us what the zombies looked like at in the ending? That way, I'd be a little more intrested of finding out what happened in the end. I think the nobleness of Will Smith's character ruined the ending. It would have been so much better if he got out of his house along with the woman and her child. I thought the bit ... If your a fan of The Boosh, It Crowd, Spaced, Red Dwarf then you've got to buy this. One of the funniest tv progs ever made. Its full of very funny songs (you may also want to get the cd)you'll be singing them for days after. The songs arnt as dark as the ones in The Boosh and the Characters are more the lovable loser type. I found myself watching this over and over again (just like IT Crowd and Red Dwarf) and I still find it very funny. what is bad about this film: the script is APPALLING - we are spoonfed, almost literally, every action or plot-turn. subtlety is out-the-window. also, the script has been totally stripped of everything that makes it relevant or even interesting. for example, the religious allusions are non-existent. what is leftover is bland, neutral, insipid, meaningless and ultimately boring. the action scenes were action-filled but over too quickly and ultimately who cares! what is okay about this film: the acting is about as good as it CAN be with a script this inept. the music score, while being play-by-numbers, is effective enough, although i can't recall a single motif worth remembering once the film has finished. what is good ... Got it for my sister, not much of a story to it and was more than a little surprised when the credits started rolling so soon (27 minutes?). You'd have to be a massive Shrek fan for this to be worth the buy. In short, it's not worth getting. >>More Details
