An excellent film from the inimitable Bruce LaBruce, released by PPR, whose ever-expanding pedigree stable also includes other highly recommended films such as 'Krampack', 'Summer Storm', 'Close to Leo', 'Circuit' and 'You'll Get Over It'.
'Sugar' is a self-consciously poignant film, made more so by the fact that one of the two main actors, the highly-talented Andre Noble, died in an accident not long after the film was made. The first thing to say is that the acting is terrible. Totally awful. This is a problem because when you are watching a TV show or movie you want to be able to actually believe whats on screen but the acting is so bad you are always aware you are "watching a show" which isnt great. The stories aren't the strongest either, they are in parts funny and mildly entertaining ideas, but according to other reviews I've read online this is all part of its "camp appeal" - I dont know when camp suddenly meant "unwatchable". The other thing is that there are only 4 episodes at 30 minutes each so you're not getting very much for your money. The story is okay, but the acting from the dark haired guy is poor. The blond one acts okay. Also the acting of some of the supporting actors is over the top and poor at certain times.

If this material had been presented with performers in clothes, no one would have given it a second look, or listen. It is not musically entertaining, not culturally endearing, not cleverly staged, and left me wondering what low level have we fallen to, if this is what passes for gay entertainment nowadays!! The cast are talented - yes, and do look good without clothes it has to be said, but that is all that can be said of it - apart from - NEXT!!!!!!!!!

It is a great movie. Really hot boys and scenes. I would recommend to everyone who likes to watch nice erotic (very hot scenes) movie with boys in trackies. Its a new British porn.

I first watched the film about a year ago as I enjoy watching controversial films from the 70's/80's and had somehow managed to miss this film. The fact Al Pacino starred also made me want to watch it.
The storey centres around a cop who goes undercover to catch a serial killer who is targeting the gay community. There is plenty of eye opening scenes especially in the clubs. Overall it is a very good film and worth watching. As a note the film caused major uproar upon release mostly from the gay community as they thought it showed an untrue image of the gay scene in New York at the time. 4 Stars. >>More Details |

I watched this film twice. And I have to be honest and say that the second time round it ranked higher. Now I was reading from a previous reviewer that this film was done on a low budget.
Well they did a good job. At first it may seem a so sweetishly fairy-like film but if you pay attention there are a few messages underneath it all. They may not have represented actual real life situations (at least one presumes) but some of the situations described in the film are not so far away from everyday life and people's misconceptions. Maybe in real life people are harsher and circumstances can have a sourer aftertaste. >>More Details |

Loved it! Really cheered me up and made me laugh out loud many times. I loved the two leads. The comic timing is spot on. Look forward to sharing it with others and having another viewing. Will really lift your spirits if you feel a bit down!

Poor storline, poor sound, poor acting and dreadfully cheap looking sets and that is without having to put up with "hammy acting". It is sad that millivres think that this is an acceptable type and quality of dvd. The gay community deserves better. NOt remotely worth the money. My advice...give this dvd a miss.
