I have to begin by saying that it's beyond my understanding why this was given an 18 certificate. I've seen more nudity and explicit sex in many mainstream films with only a 15 certificate. The only nudity is about 2 SECONDS at the beginning where the 'hero' Markus arrives home to find his boyfriend naked on the carpet (back to the camera) with another naked young man almost invisible behind the boyfriend, and another couple of equally unrevealing seconds later on, showing Markus with (I think - can't remember - that's how much the film impressed me!) Tyler.
For the rest of the film the previous reviews say it all so there's no point in my repeating the comments. This film is indeed poorly acted and is boring in the extreme. I'd ... Read More:

I am no film buff, and am dragged to the cinema by my other half to watch what i call 'art films' and he calls 'world cinema', whatever it is called Glue was the winner of the copenhagen G+L film festival 2007. Thankfully not gratuitous but an interesting film into puberty and friends - well worth the watch

This is a beautiful film. Haunting gentle music and beautiful scenery. I had never thought of North Carolina before - very rarely depicted on film I guess - but this film made the locations very attractive. It was a film which soon after I started watching it I knew I loved it and was totally absorbed. And I felt myself wanting the film to go on and on - I even checked the timing on the case hoping it was longer - can't remember doing that before! I felt thoroughly absorbed in the film. There is a very clever interweaving of timelines which takes a little getting used to - as a result I was quite shocked towards the end as I had not really expected the ending. And it's not obvious quite how all the characters are related until well into the film. This is a very ... Read More:

I cannot tell if this is meant to be satirical or merely intentionally offensive to just about everyone. Come on Bruce, you have and should have done better!

This film is jam packed with acting talent, Hank Azaria is quite poignant as the former child star who wonders what happened to his promising career and Debra Winger is hilarious as the loquacious head of a silent family. To be honest I can't remember the last time I saw a film in which all the actors pulled their own weight as they do here.
I did see the twist coming very early on, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of watching the interplay between the family members. I don't want to say too much about the funny bits as they're funny because they're unexpected, but when the brother (Ray Romano) questions his sister's girlfriend about their sex life I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.
This will not be an Oscar winner but it is one that will be there for you when you had a bad day or when winter gets to you !!!!
In the league of Full Monty it is all predictible.
It is funny - soft and the actors are good looking too.
A very good quality / feel good movie a good little wine and pizza to go with it PERFECT.
And you don't have to be a footy fan to enjoy !!!

This is a documentary which is constructed very cleverly like a film to parallel two stories - the young men acting in adult films and the director whose day job is in a mortuary. Very clever. But also very sad. One can't help but see that the real culprit is probably the drug addiction which makes the young men need money and their willingness to get involved in the filming to pay for that. If they didn't need that then they wouldn't need to get involved. Or would they? The film doesn't give a totally one-sided answer to things as to why people do what they do. The young men, the director, the "customers" who buy the films, the drug dealers who supply the drugs. So the film makes you question why people are doing things - human motivation - and that's what's interesting.

Beefcake is a fascinating docu-drama into the beginnings of gay porn in the USA.
Bob Mizer is a man with a mission. He loves taking photographs of hunky nude men, and soon discovers that there are plenty of straight guys willing to get their kit off in front of the camera and plenty willing to buy the magazines and photographs that feature these men!
The film features a dramatic portrayal of the events as they unfold, cut with recent interviews of some of the models; the fun times they had, the enjoyment pride they still have in baring all for art.
'Beefcake' is an enjoyable, if not a little long, movie and a great record of what is an important era for gay erotica. Filled with actual footage of many of the models posing, and plenty of re-creations ... Read More:
