ok so it might not be a typical family watching film, but i grew up watching this film with my dad and it never bothered me or gave me nightmares or anything. It has now become an absolute favourite of mine and i make my fiance watch it over and over again when we rent it constantly from the video shop. I have to buy it...this film and of course kickboxer, another family favourite. The music throughout these films are awesome. Such feel good films and who doesnt love to watch jean claude van damme in that leotard. haha.
MARKED FOR DEATH is a great action film - and also marks the most violent film of his career.I have no idea why the BBFC finally passed this one uncut, while some others remain heavily edited.
MARKED FOR DEATH - having been wrongly accused as being a racist film - features more bone cracking action than any film I have evers seen, as he attempts to bring down the Jamaican drug dealers that have invaded his hometown. Together with an old buddy of his he takes them on bear handedly and soon finds himself marked for death by their occult leader who uses voodoo.
Combines action with a bit of occult horror and very strong violence.

Remember that they warned us that the quality of films stored on VHS would deteriorate over time. I watched a copy of No retreat, No Surrender recently and found that this is, in fact, true.
However, I thought they were referring to a deterioration in the quality of the visual image and soundtrack. It utrns out that it was the quality of the acting that suffered.
How could I not have noticed on viewing it for the first time all those years ago that there was more ham in the acting that there was in a butcher's window.
RW Fails, who plays RJ Madison III, is a shockingly bad actor, as is Jason Stillwell's dad.
Scott (the fat kid) is trying so hard to be serious but fails completely to pull it off.

Why? Apart from the fact that it stars Michelle Yeoh, it's an absolute delight from start to finish.
Wing Chun, played by Yeoh, is the somewhat androgynous protector of a village from a gang of thugs and bullies. She runs a tofu shop with her vivacious and avaricious aunt and befriends and protects a young widow whom its seems every male in the village lusts after uncontrollably. The aunt lusts after the rich, greedy local scholar. A visiting martial artist appears in search of his childhood sweetheart, mistaking Yeoh for a man and the widow for his sweetheart. At one point Yeoh's own interest in the widow appears somewhat ambiguous.
Cue a romantic comedy of errors plus lots of fighting. It's really a rather sweet film with Yeoh displaying a ... Read More:

You've seen it all before, the mystical temple, the mystical scroll of power which must be protected by the Guardian who cannot live forever, who therefore has to elect a Chosen One, who has to fulfil the prophecy or prophecies plural, who has to demonstrate his skills and worthiness, bad guys want to steal scroll, fights, etc. East is east and west is west but ne'er the twain shall meet. Except for the bulletproof monk who is protected by the power of the scroll but strangely sees potential in a street punk pickpocket who is no great kung fu expert but has a good heart.
The chase leads over sixty years from Tibet to the US. The Nazis, who never give up, want the scroll because they are still the master race. Lots of good action for the regular kung ... Read More:
