It's good to see the adventures of John Nettles' Inspector Barnaby finally come to DVD. Taken from the first series 'Death of a hollow man' is one of the strongest episodes in the series history. Full of memorable characters played by some of this countrys finest actors and with one memorable murder inflicted by the victim as he performs on stage. The story is set around a amateur production of 'Amadeus' at the Causton Playhouse. But the cast, who includes the Inspector's wife Joyce, soon discover that someone is more interested in murder than showbusiness. John Nettles returned to television after concentrating on his stage career and fits the part of Barnaby perfectly. He is paired with the accomplished young actor Daniel Casey ... Read More:

The village of Midsomer Magna is devastated by the closure of the Kings Crystal glassware factory. The closure comes after the seemingly accidental death of co-owner Alan King. The factory workers are jobless and, left with no financial security, begin to rail against the accountant, Peter Baxter, and the remaining co-owner, Charles King, about their redundancies. When Baxter's body is found in the water meadows stabbed to death with a masonic dagger, Jones suggests suicide, but the pathologist Dr. Bullard and Barnaby suspeact foul play.
This is what it says on the back of the case.
I, personally, thought this was another excellent episode.
I don't usually leave reviews, but was annoyed that there was no explanation of plot ... Read More:

Ok, so one of the reasons why I love Midsummer Murders so much is due to the fact that Daniel Casey is in it! Seriously, it's one of the best shows on ITV these days. Pretty, chocolate-box villages, gruesome murders, downright odd locals and a cracking' theme tune make this un-missable. John Nettles is superb as easy going Tom Barnaby, while Daniel Casey is the perfect sidekick as Sgt Troy. You can't keep any secrets if you live in a village! Watch your backs, there's some strange happenings at the cricket pavilion...and don't walk down that leafy lane!!!
