The dvd box set is is definatly what it says. Recommended to anyone who wants to know how the second season works out. basically like all Season 1 tv shows which are almost always character building seasons before the prelude to the plot later on.
Certain characters and races/organizations you might be aware of from those who watched TNG and not DS9 or VOY before are listed:
'The Empire Strikes Back', the second of the "old" Star Wars releases, is likely to be the darker of the collection, yet at the same time, the most accomplished in terms events. Their are many well shot scenes that are so cleverly edited, and the early fight scene on the snow planet between the rebels and the empire is superbly shot.
It's only my opinion though, but I've always felt the ending shot of this film is incredibly weak. Not longer after Darth Vader has confessed his relationship with Luke, we're still in alot of tension and the atmosphere is quite mellow, yet in a matter of minutes, all this is turned around so we can have a shot of Luke, Leia, and the droids gazing out of their cruisers window with a big smile on their ... With the majority of the Goa'uld defeated during the previous season this ninth season sees the rise of a new threat to the galaxy in the form of the godlike Ori. This season also sees changes to the main cast with Richard Dean Anderson leaving the main cast and new faces in the shape of Ben Bowder, Claudia Black (both from the excellent Farscape) and Lexa Doig (from Andromeda) joining the show on a regular or semi-regular basis. This change in cast could have been quite terrible but thankfully Ben Bowder more than fills Anderson's shoes as Lt. Col. Mitchell, the new leader of SG-1, and all the other new additions to the cast also fit in very well.
The storyline of this season is good, with the defeat of the Goa'uld last season it was ... Read More:

i simply loved deep space nine, though i don't care for the episodes where they overuse the holodeck or suddenly time travel the main story arc and the characters such as kira, odo, quark are some of the best written sci-fi i've seen, as entertaining as babylon 5 or the new battlestar galactica show
if you like any of those you'll love deep space nine...you don't have to be a trekkie to like it at all [i'm no fan fan star trek te next generation for exampe]
an all deep space nine is THE BEST star trek based show to date in my opinion.

By season 10..SG1 was looking tired. The Ori storyline was uninteresting and they prove yet again in this last series that they are nowhere near as interesting as the gou'ld. The stories were looking lame and again not a patch on stuff from series 1-6. The last episode "unending" isnt all that great either and wasnt a great episode for this once great show to finish on. Its not all bad..its still reasonable in places but i'm glad they finally decided to cancel the show as 10 seasons is a lot and any show that goes that long struggles. Check out the first few seasons on dvd as they are the best.

Series 4 of the new Doctor Who has been in my opinion, one of the finest series ever. David Tennant remains as brilliant as ever, and if anything changes, it's that he can only get better as time goes on. Catherine Tate, has surprised and amazed me, with her portrayal of Donna Noble in this series, making the character such a credible, efficient and lovable assistant to the Doctor.
All this excellence continues in this fine volume of the fourth series, as Russell T Davies revives another old villainous race from the Doctor's past, introduces more allies and facts from the Time Lord's past (the older series to be exact) and includes some more good old interaction with one of history's greatest figures.
I am a pretty big fan of Studio Ghibli, so my review might be slightly biased to those of you who aren't. After I heard that Christian Bale provided the voice of Howl for this film (after seeing him in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, two of my all-time favourite films) I really wanted to see Howl's Moving Castle, and my God it's fantastic!
I'll try to keep this short and spoiler-free. This is SUCH a beautiful film, with spectacular animation (as we always get from Ghibli) and a sweet, sad story with a happy ending (the ending is so beautiful, it always makes me cry!) and fantastic characters (Christian Bale and Billy Crystal really stand out as voice actors who contribute to their characters enormously).
Exellent conversion to Blu-ray. A bit grainy in parts but gives this classic film a new lease of life. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition) [Blu-ray] [1977]

These two films are briliant because their not from the point of veiw that aliens are big scary monsters their just normal. Its about how aliens are just trying to live their lives on Earth. Will Smith is great in the films aswell as he brings some real funny moments but the one liners and reactions of tommy lee jones are the best. Loads of extra stuff aswell. Including how all the aliens were made because their not all fake looking CGI things. The films have got something for everyone.
