OK I say nicely done it's not great, but it is informative and looks at one of the most fantastic albums made in Rock history. When I say it's not great, it isn't an accurate review of the album and doesn't give an intensive look at how it was made and many contributions from the band themselves.
It is a nice documentary if you want a bit of nostalgia or a reflective look back at America's greatest Soft Rock band. The Eagles were kings in the 70s, now watch the DVD and buy the album for a delight and a working knowledge of sheer class in how to make an album. I just wouldn't suggest "Long Road Out of Eden" for that! I enjoyed this and you will too, nice DVD and one that would make a great ... Read More: >>More Details |

This dvd consists of two BJH concerts from the eighties.'Glasnost' from Berlin in 1987 and 'Victims of Circumstance' recorded at Wembley in 1984.For the BJH fan these are a must as there is nothing else available of this magical and much under-rated band.
'Glasnost' contains ten tracks, with 'Victims Of Circumstance' coming in with eleven tracks. Some of the old favourites make an appearance on both, most notably 'Poor Mans Moody Blues' and 'Life Is For Living'.The classic 'Hymn' closes both concerts. The 'Victims Of Circumstance' concert contains four tracks off that album. I would consider myself a big fan of the band but I only own one CD 'best of' so when I saw this going cheap I thought I'd chance my arm. Now, if you are like me and warey of many of these 'tribute dvds' which abound DON'T WORRY HERE. A fantastic surprise - a proper documentary with interviews and everything! It takes a song-by-song approach, using TV footage of performances at the time, the quality of which in some cases is fantastic.
Every 60s band deserves something like this. The main feature is about an hour with some additional songs and interviews as well. The interviews are a mix of mid 80s and the 2004/2005, so bring you up to date with the death of John etc. The only sadness was a lack of real interviews with Cass, but her personality ... The DVD overall is really very pleasant, enjoyable. Singing and harmonies are of typically high CSN standard. Despite a number of criticisms of Crosby being stoned, etc - maybe so although I did not notice - but his singing can be wonderful - especially on Long Time Comin'. However, all pales beside an absolutely monumental version of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. It is utterly compelling. Stephen Stills on guitar here is other worldly. Perfect timing, harmonies intricate and effortless, and when the final do-do-do-dodo comes, the audience joins in & it is simply euphoric. Mariza is the fabulous exponent of the Portuguese Fado, bringing all the elements necessary; passion, saudades, power. This DVD really encapsulates why Mariza has been hailed as the new Princess of Fado (as Amalia is the Queen). The beautiful settings of the Union Chapel, and the superb choice of songs are wonderfully blended. I give it four stars simply for the reason that I'm not a big fan of 'O Deserto' and of the live performances of 'Barco Negro'! The other songs are fantastic, the evocative 'Aneis Do Meu Cabelo', the wonderfully upbeat and amusing 'Oica La O Senhor Vinho" and (as always) the monumentally powerful "Primavera". It is also nice to hear Mariza's explanations of Fado and of the nature of a few of the songs, which may be welcomed by those partially stumped ... Read More:
