Given that these surge protectors are available at nominal cost and will protect your potentially valuable electronic equipment in the event of a power spike, these items are an obvious purchase for every household. There's not really a lot more to say, except that the build quality of the power strip seems to be high. My only issue I have found is that I sometimes have difficulty persuading my PC to boot when it is powered via the surgemaster. The problem seems to be the initial high power drawer of my NVIDIA 8800 GT graphics card. Therefore I sometimes have problems persuading my PC to boot, but since I don't reboot very often it is not really much of an issue. Recently my Mum said that her Sky+ box kept crashing. Sky has replaced numerous boxes and still they crash/fail. They are known to have cheap power supplies, which would suggest they would have no tolerance to power fluctuations. I have never ever had any trouble with my box. However my box gets its power from a Belkin PureAV Home Cinema Surge Protector, which I bought to protect my HDTV (this set up was in my Mum's house before I moved out and I had no problems). So I thought I would try one on my Mum's setup. Sure enough she hasn't experienced one problem since it went in. So they obviously do something.

I wanted a simple/reliable 6-way surge protector and this is exactly what I got. I haven't had a problem yet and am comforted by the thought that if my home does suffer a power surge then my expensive TV/stereo equipment won't be damaged.

Cam within a few days. No setting up required - just plug in, and done. Perfect. Belkin have really done well here. Its small as well, which means it can be tucked away out of sight easily.

I bought this about a year ago and it's been faultless, the two directional sockets at the end of the switch are a big help for the bigger plugs, such as chargers and adapters. It also comes supplied with AV and telephone extension cables, which comes in handy.
The only reason I gave it 4, not 5 - out of 5 stars is for the simple matter of the switch! It's really, really easy to accidentally turn the power off with your foot, if the device lies under your desk (as it does with mine). I have had a couple of Belkin units, including this one, fail to protect my equipment. Once a PC just died one day, and I found burn marks on the motherboard PSU connector. The other time with this exact unit there was a lightning strike nearby, and the computer PSU was fried along with my monitor and HiFi amplifier.
Both times I tried to claim from Belkin on their warranty. They make it very hard, and you have to send them the damaged equipment. In both cases they at first refused to pay up, but eventually I got some compensation out of them. Nothing like the value of the items though, only their "second hand" value which for Belkin means car boot sale prices. I now have a Tripp-Lite and touch wood have no had any problems. >>More Details |
