I've had this camera for about six months now and taken thousands of shots. A good basis for a review I would have thought !
In a few words,the Fuji Finepix S5800 is an absolute cracker ! I've just this very weekend filled up two SD cards full of mountain shots taken in the Lake District and I have to say,they are probably the best outdoor photographs I've ever taken. I also took some video footage which although not as sharply defined when viewed on a full screen,is quite acceptable. The camera offers a multitude of shooting variables including manual over-ride although I generally just use the Auto/landscape/portrait in natural light and movie. when the camera arrived, it took me about 10 minutes to get familiar with the settings and features. menus and buttons are set out logically. then i tried it all out with photos of my children, flowers (testing the macro), landscapes, sunsets... i am very impressed with the results. it's a robust camera which is easy to hold and the quality of the photos is superb, even with zoom. the movie mode produces good video files. i am looking forward to using the camera at christmas and on days out. i also bought an 8GB SD card and fujifilm leather bag from amazon and they are great accessories for this camera.

When my daughter splashed out on a superb Canon G9 Canon PowerShot G9 Digital Camera - Black (12.1MP, 6x Optical Zoom) 3.0" LCD earlier this year, I decided it was time to replace my trusty Canon Ixus v with something a bit more sophisticated. Not wishing to pay G9 or SLR prices, and disliking the trend away from proper viewfinders on many recent ultra-compact models, I reckoned this is a perfect compromise between price, size and convenience. Having a Leica lens is a big attraction too of course.

The main appeal of this camera at first glance is the fact that it resembles a 'mini me' form of a trad SLR.
Build quality is ok - just, as the flash lid doesn't quite sit flush with the top surface - ingress of dust likely a hazard. The main body is plastic, however the surround of the lense is engraved metal. The door for the memory card & battery is an art to open...Overall the camera has a nice weighty feel to it and the hand grip does help. Buttons on the rear are useful if you have nails! Be aware having no viewfinder does limit it in low light. The screen will attract fingermarks - if this bothers you then perhaps an anti-glare screen protector will help. I like this camera!
I just returned from a three-week trip to Italy, Holland, and London, and I found my Nikon P80 to be easy to manage, after several readings of the manual. Not too small, the P80 fits comfortably into my hands and does not wobble as the smaller cameras tend to do. Although I do miss taking splendid photos with my 1974 Rollei SLR with the three lenses and polarizer, I do not miss the weight, the limitations of rolls of film, and the encumbrances of all the accompanying paraphernalia. I especially like the P80 because it is inconspicuous, and one can get candid shots of street life without being intrusive. UltraZooms have came to bridge the gap between Point-&-Shoot cameras and DSLRs. They may not be the easiest to carry in a pocket (especially in the summer) but offer much better lenses, sensors and features than their mobile-phone sized cousins. There is no doubt that for the money this is a pretty good camera, the build is pretty good, it feels and looks quite classy, the image quality is just fine....it does overexpose a little in full auto mode, it is adviseable to shoot in P mode and compensate with a bit of negative exposure compensation....easy to do, I shoot with about -0.7ev most of the time, and the P mode remembers this setting, so its not like you have to dial it in every time, menus are simplicity itself (like all Kodak cameras)
