The Reader is a superb piece of kit, one which solves holiday baggage allowance restrictions at a stroke! The crying shame is that, in the UK at least, Sony have thrown in their lot with Waterstones, who clearly treat ebooks as something entirely different from paper books: result, an impenetrable website and rip-off pricing. Example: Philip Hansher's "The Northern Clemency" is currently £8.99 in hardback, £11.39 in paperback and £14.39 as an ebook!
2 questions: why can't UK readers have access to Sony's own US-based Bookstore?; and when will Amazon UK start selling ebooks?

Bought this a few weeks ago - the 120GB version. It's great. It does everything it says it does and more. I've not got a Tuff-Luv case for it as there isn't one that comes with it (poor show). I still thnk the price is too high as much cheaper abroad. However I bought mine (sorry Amazon) from Heathrow Terminal 1 Dixons for £195. However Dixons now raised their price to almost that of Amazon so I'd recomend getting from Amazon now.
I've filled 3/4 of the hard drive now with muisic/films and many TV programmes. Not a problem though as easy to connect to laptop or external drives or flash memory and you can file manage from the Archos.
I think the adverts and reviews for the system really undersell it.
Youtube is great. I've not ... Read More:

Christmas is coming so save your cash! Why purchase something you can get for £5.
Go to ipodgifts.net and sign up. Complete ONE offer - I would recommend Gala Bingo (you know, the one for on tv),as this is cheap and fun (and you might win some money in the process!)
If you really don't want to spend, there is a free Lovefilm trial.
All companies are well known so there is no risk involved- give it a go! I got my Ipod and many other things this way, so don't miss out.
I was a sceptic once but now I am SO glad I gave it a chance. B8C approved this system on their a while back.
Many different ipods to choose from and they send your gift for Free.

The Archos 5 is just so much improved it's hard to fine any fault at all. All Archos products are wonderful but this time they have outdone themselves. A Superb entertainment machine and the screen is so good I watch full movies rather than sit in fron of the TV, As Archos always have said "think snmaller". Just wonderful.

I bought my iPod touch last Christmas and fell in love with it immedietly. However... now, after just nine or ten months it has already started to 'play up'. It pauses randomly and sometimes i can see the time slider going through a song but no sound. i took it back to the apple shop, they put the new updates on it (free of charge i'd like to say ;)) but i still have the same problem i.e keeps pausing randomly.
i would suggest that you don't buy the iPod touch as i am completely convinced that mine will stop working altogether JUST after my one year gurantee runs out. proof of this: my friend and her sister both bought an iPod on the same day last year and just after their one year gurantee ran out... they both stopped working within hours of each other. many ... I bought this just as another MP3 player with a huge size and lo what i found was - its marvelous
You can store most of your documents and pictures as well as your entire favourite music gallery and yet - there is always space in it...
It has never disappointed with its battery life so far - and is a wonderful and strong player compared to others....
However, people may find it difficult to carry - due to its bulk - for me this has never been a problem. I have a small wallet - large enough to zip my beloved archos in it and carry with me when i am jogging or on the move...
Its a wonderful library of movies, songs and ebooks for me - though i have never used it to read any of the ebooks!

Having read the above reviews from the DVR I do wonder if perhaps I have a faulty unit. The unit acts as a 'pass-through' when my Archos 704 wifi isn't docked, i.e. phono connection from recording source (there is a supplied Scart adaptor to convert from phono) and phono to Scart out (I can't understand why the phono connectors are all gold plated, but the scart connectors are not). Sat next to my Panasonic 32" LCD the picture quality is notably degraded on the TV, partuculary when seeing any text on the screen). Play back of recorded stuff on the Archos is reasonable enough, but I can't put up with the degraded picture quality on my TV for the bulk of the time when my Archos is not in use (The docking station does have S-video in/out which I have not yet tried, but may improve ... Purchased only few days ago (27/10/08). Charged battery for 8 hours, got a bit worried as lost 1 bar in 5 mins, soon went down to 1 bars. Suggest buying additional battery dock as it eats up power. Web-brower plug-in is £20 additional feature, but find it glitchy. YouTube streaming is fantastic tho, goes full screen and excellent quality. Waiting for my DVR 5 to come! suggest buying add-on features it is worth it!
