I bought this camera just for home use... I travel a lot and wanted to keep a reassuring eye on my home and pets (fish.... before anyone calls the RSPCA). As a result. reviews about the noisy motor and the restrictions on users that can connect to it didn't really bother me too much.
Was does bother me, now that I have the product, is the unreliability of the wireless connection. I have played with the settings, reduced the image quality, changed the image type etc and I am lucky if I can connect to the camera 1 out of 3 attempts before it times out. It seems to lock up pretty often as well so even after I have made the connection simple tasks like changing the camera angle seem to lock it out. Sometimes closing my browser allows ... Read More:

Delivered quickly, only problem was that I was sent a EU model not UK that had the wrong power supply. Service was good though and I was sent an adaptor in 24 hrs.
Took a day to set up though, bit of a minefield setting up port forwarding etc etc but finally got there.
Not bad quality, motion detection works well and e-mails images straight away. Although had problems installing the web based applications, didnt like the unsigned didital signatures needed on the active ex control etc.
Overall good value for money.

It was a smart piece of kit when I bought it. It's quite self reliant, sitting their quietly working. Image quality is average. Configuration is pretty good - i.e. you can set alternative ports so you can traverse your office firewall...
However, the motion detection has never worked for me and its clear there are no plans to issue a fix since it's been so long since the last firmware version.
I'd like to recommend it but frankly, in my experience, it doesn't do everything it claims.

This network webcam was purchased as a test to see if the 'tilt/pan' was any good.
At the price point, the tilt/pan is in fact just selecting part of the image sensor which has a very short focal length, giving a wide angle view. This wide angle view is not optically 'straight', but that's to be expected. The interface allows 'scanning' of the overall area, which is a nice addition,
In use, the device used only 3 watts at 12 volts (250 mA) and is a candidate for running from a solar panel. It will also run at 6V but then uses 500 mA of current.
Wireless range is acceptable up to 20m from a BT hub base station.
The user interface works best under Internet explorer and is acceptable, but requires some work ... Read More:

Being a gadget freak - I have tried out many IP cameras. I wrote a review earlier on the TrendNet 201W and I must admit, picture quality wise, the D-Link DCS 2120 will not be second to even the TrendNet 201W which is a very good IP camera in this price segment.
Hoewever, D-Link seems to have tied up with 'HomeCamera' Web guys and they are useless with their online and call help desk. The Online guys/Girls have no clue on the product while when we call, we are told to give 2 days to respond but after 10 days I am still waiting for that call.
Setting up the D-Link DCS2120 is pretty easy. Golden rule is, try to hook up the camera to view directly via the internet and not through the 'HomeCamera' web services. As long as you do not set up the HomeCamera ... Read More:
