I brought this DVD after reading the reviews. I really needed a Multi-regional as quite alot of our DVD's are from USA. It was simple to set up and thanks to the first reviewers code it is now multi regional - fantstic value.

Have now had this player for around 3 weeks and am more than impressed with it. I have it hooked up to my 32" Panasonic LCD which is`nt full HD just HD ready, but the quality of the pictures is simply amazing.
Setup is nice and easy and there are plenty of menus to tweak the player to your individual liking. One thing worth turning on straight away is the 24p playback, the is set to off by default, however you can only turn it on if your TV supports 24p
Load times are pretty quick and varies from disc to disc but still a fair bit slower than DVD. The unit is also very slim and good looking although still behind the Samsungs in the latter department. Its also very quiet and runs almost silent, only when you put your head near the unit ... Read More:

Sony RDR-HXD890 160GB Hard Disc Drive DVD Recorder with freeview - Black
I HAD BEEN WARNED FROM PREVIOUS REVIEWS THAT THE MANUAL WAS DIABOLICAL AND SO IT TURNED OUT TO BE. AT 160 PLUS PAGES IT IS ENOUGH TO PUT ANYONE OFF. HOWEVER ON RECEIVING THE MACHINE FROM AMAZON I SETTLED DOWN TO READ IT. IT COVERS OTHER SERIES AND IS NOT CLEAR UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY WELL VERSED IN COMPUTING AND DVD RECORDERS.
ALL I WANTED WAS A DVD RECORDER TO RECORD FROM MY 2001 PANASONIC!! ON "HOOKING UP" (A.K.A AS "SET UP" EVERY OTHER TV VHS ETC) SUPPOSED TO BE AUTO ONE HAS STILL GOT TO CLICK THIS AND THAT AND THEN CLICK FINISH BUT THEN TO FIND OUT THAT IT DOESN'T WORK IS GALLING TO SAY THE LEAST. YES IT FOUND ALL THE CHANNELS ETC BUT I AM LEFT WITH ONLY THE ANALOGE ... Read More:

Sony RDRGX350B DVD Recorder The outstanding feature of this recorder is the improved quality of the picture from my old Bush recorder. I played a DVD I had recently watched and the difference is clearly noticeable. And this is BEFORE I have connected the HDMI bits. I just put it in place of my old recorder and transferred the SCART etc connections to the new one. So I am pleased with just for that. It won't play CDs unfortuntaly and seems picky over my own previously recored DVDs but i have only had it an hour or so, and am sertainly hanging onto it. I am glad it does not have Freeview as the display on Sony is too small for my eyes, so I can play my Bush PVR through it and use that. I have learnt that if I record onto my PVR then I can play it back and record it ... Read More:

I don't usually bother to write reviews, but in this case I thought it was warranted.
This is a FANTASTIC bit of kit, and wish that I had bought one earlier!
I had a little bit of trouble setting it up (for some reason it didn't initially want to be recongnised on my TV), but eventually it was ok.
The Freeview tuner offers superb signal quality compared to the Freeview box I used in the past.
Recording programmes is a breeze. When I compare it to how difficult my Sony video recorder was to record from this is simply amazing! I used to go out of my way not to record things before because it was so much hassle. I have recorded more in a week of using this product then I did in the previous five years...
After doing some research and reading countless reviews I finally purchased my first Blu Ray Player. At the time my heart was set on getting the Panasonic DMP-BD55, but down to a rather bad experience I had in purchasing a Panasonic DMR E20 DVD Recorder some years ago for a grand, and it breaking down in 13 months time, I vowed I would never buy Panasonic again, and I've pretty much stuck to my words, and just bought the Sony BDP S550.
Upon setting up the player and putting it to the test, I was absoloutly gobsmacked by it's performance. I don't know exactly whats inside this unit, but its driving out sound of shear precission, out of my AV System. And I've only played DVD's on it, has I have no Blu Ray Discs at the moment, or an HD TV. But the HD TV I should be getting in 2 weeks ... Read More:

As a massive Sony fan i have to say this bit of kit is 10 out of 10. With the 850watt output the sound is out of this world. You are in the cinema. Bring on the popcorn!! Adding this to my Sony 40" LCD the two are as one with the Bravia Sync. You will need a couple of extra leads which aren't supplied but setting up is a mere 20 min's. The speakers are compact and come with lots of cable lenght. The mic helps you set up the speakers in the correct position for max sound and pleasure.
Enjoy this product even more knowing you have saved £50 against the high streets and deliverly as always from Amazon is first class. Cheers Amazon.

Spent weeks trying to decide which model to buy. My priorities included a) Quiet b) Easy to Use c) Easy to Install d) Compatible with my existing equipment (includes Epson Projector, LG Cinema Sound, Sharp LCD. It came up trumps in all requirements. My wife could not get on with my previous LG DVD recorder...far too complicated, but within 30 mins was recording to HDD quite merrily. The manual looks daunting, but to be up and running you need about 3 pages only. The manual is available on-line at Sony's site, so I got everything planned before it arrived.
A couple of Reviews on the "Black" version complained about noise ... must have been a faulty item, and another about intrusive LEDs but neither have been noted.
