I did a fair bit of research before settling on this Sony. I was originally interested in the 7" model, but it is worth going for the extra size to get a better picture. The quality is outstanding - very sharp even with 80s TV programmes on DVD. The colours are punchy and crisp and overall I am very impressed with the visuals.
Althought it is region 2, it plays my region 4 DVDs fine, but cannot play Region 1 NTSC disks.
Two earphone jacks is great so you can watch a movie on a plane or train with others.
The detachable battery is slim and means when using the unit through the plug without a battery, it is nice and slimline.
I think it is better than any of the Phillips, Toshiba and other models ... Read More:

Bought this to use when I was on holiday or something like that?
My then two year old (now three) took to it in a big way. great for long journeys in the old jollopy. Did find the lack of instructions for fixing to rear of car seat a bit mind boggling but in the end found that if you just bungy the thing to the back of the seat (without the case) it works just as well. Battery life was not as long as advertised but still lasted about two and a half hours. Great screen and clear images. Very pleased with this item for the money I paid. saw some others that were more expensive (Branded)that didn't seem half as good.

The rather odd review giving this a low rating is quite out of place - Pixmania often supply European spec kit in my experience but usually give a plug adapter.
Bought from a UK company this will be a UK spec and it performs very, v-e-r-y well indeed. If you have an HD TV you'll need to buy an HDMI cable (don't waste money on a Curry's/ Comet con-job cable at £30.00+! Silly shops.). The up-scaling of ordinary DVDs is truly excellent and really makes the TV show what it can do. The previous nearly identical model received rave reviews and this one is its equal and more. Well done Philips.

As with the other reviews that have gone before, I can't fault Amazon for their delivery or service, however I've been un-impressed with this product and have subsequently returned it to Amazon. On opening the box, we were presented with a leaflet which insisted the DVD player should not be used in a moving vehicle (despite the car adaptor and carry bag). Whilst frustrated by this, we were more frustrated to find that the DVD player struggled to play DVD's. Out of the 10 dvd's we put in the device, only 2 would play without freezing, and 4 would not play at all (despite them being brand new region 2 Disney discs). The device is also very noisy on trying to load discs. I've subsequesntly gone out and bought the Philips PET831/05 DVD player, which for around ... Read More:

I bought one of these from Richer Sounds in London.
Good points: whilst the screen is of low-resolution it's not as harsh or blocky as many similar screens on budget machines. The player handles the vast majority of DivX files without complaint, though it refuses to play HD files.
Bad points: I initially found it unbelievable that this player can't correctly play 4:3 (non-widescreen) DVDs - it will only play them at 16:9. Philips support then actually confirmed the fact: so if you have any 4:3 DVDs they will only play stretched out across widescreen, with everyone and everything looking fat. Note that this problem does not affect DivX playback: the LCD aspect ratio of DivX is selected according to the TV ratio chosen in the player setup. ... Read More:

On the surface this looks like a great deal. Top brand, DivX playback, classy design and it comes with TONS of accessories - seriously, it comes with a carry case/car mounting straps, UK 3-pin and Euro 2-pin AC cables, 12v car cable, AV in/out cable, 5 hour battery, Toshiba branded pad-on-ear headphones and the obligatory remote control unit - which is great, as no portable I have previously owned came with that many accessories. But read on for the bad stuff.....
Apart from the fact the unit is VERY noisy in operation, i.e. seeking and reading discs, one of its main failings is that of the display....you can actually see the lines of resolution unless you are some distance from the screen. My last player, a cheap supermarket branded unit, had a better picture than ... Read More:

I bought this for my son as an early X-mas present and firstly I am glad to notice that he is happy with being the owner of the player as Hyundai name is known unlike other unbranded players. The player has never let him down from his first impression and it has played all his dvds collected from different countries such as Dubai, USA, Japan etc. We tested on playbck of SD cards where we recorded the holiday memories thru Camcorder and it played them all in good definition of color, contrast and sharpness. I trust that the TFT panel built-in is a top quality and the USB interface is another convenient feature on this player.

Bought this for my 6 year old daughter, delivery was excellent and thanks to some other reviews set it to region 0 so it now plays all her dvds. Would recommend this to anyone. I bought this as reconditioned and works really well.
