I HAD BEEN WARNED FROM PREVIOUS REVIEWS THAT THE MANUAL WAS DIABOLICAL AND SO IT TURNED OUT TO BE. AT 160 PLUS PAGES IT IS ENOUGH TO PUT ANYONE OFF. HOWEVER ON RECEIVING THE MACHINE FROM AMAZON I SETTLED DOWN TO READ IT. IT COVERS OTHER SERIES AND IS NOT CLEAR UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY WELL VERSED IN COMPUTING AND DVD RECORDERS. ALL I WANTED WAS A DVD RECORDER TO RECORD FROM MY 2001 PANASONIC!! ON "HOOKING UP" (A.K.A AS "SET UP" EVERY OTHER TV VHS ETC) SUPPOSED TO BE AUTO ONE HAS STILL GOT TO CLICK THIS AND THAT AND THEN CLICK FINISH BUT THEN TO FIND OUT THAT IT DOESN'T WORK IS GALLING TO SAY THE LEAST. Spent weeks trying to decide which model to buy. My priorities included a) Quiet b) Easy to Use c) Easy to Install d) Compatible with my existing equipment (includes Epson Projector, LG Cinema Sound, Sharp LCD. It came up trumps in all requirements. My wife could not get on with my previous LG DVD recorder...far too complicated, but within 30 mins was recording to HDD quite merrily. The manual looks daunting, but to be up and running you need about 3 pages only. The manual is available on-line at Sony's site, so I got everything planned before it arrived.

I am certain this is a high qulaity product, however what I was not aware of is that it does not accept Analogue Signal. As I do not have Digital reception in my region (and will not until 2010) this product is rendered useless for my needs.

Just like to say that PC World are doing these for £391.76 so if you want to waste your money at a totally usless store, thats the place to goto, they love making you wait for you to try to get some service but when you do find a member of staff, they seem not to know anything, why employ these people ?

So far, I've no complaints with the DVD/Video combo. It's pretty easy to use, and produces decent quality pictures on my 37" HDTV. It does take a painfully long time to change drive from video to DVD and vice-versa, but I can live with that, I guess.
Anyway, does anyone know a multi-region hack for the DVD?? Thanks. >>More Details |

I bought this unit 4 months ago. Overall I have been slightly disappointed as the unit is a bit sluggish in it's mechanical operations - eg while rewinding, or jumping to next section of DVD etc, and is quite noisy - lots of whirring and clicking.
I have already had it fixed because the DVDs would freeze while playing, and then get stuck in the machine. (The repair was free as it's in its 1 year warranty.) Other than all that, it does play VHS tapes and DVDs in the way you would expect. But I would hesitate before recommending this product and kind of wish I'd bought something else. >>More Details |

I have returened this PVR today to Comet after only two days. I will tell you why. This is a brilliant product if you a can't get a decent Satellite pic- but have a 60% quality Freeview reception - 100% strength reception is NOT Enough- Where I live in Scotland, unfortunately has a bad reception, about 50% of the channels were really very good- (this product upscaled the standard definition channels to near HD fantastic quality) and the rest, because of the signal quality were very bad- I wish some one told me this before I bought this product- BUT COMET Aberdeeen were brilliant- very good shop and they understood the problem- OTHERWISE IT IS REALLY 5 STARS

I received this piece of panasonic junk for a Birthday/Christmas present! to put it politely...I wouldn`t give this pile of junk to my worst enemy!
Watching freeview is AWFUL, the picture regularly pixelates and freezes, making recordings from the freeview a total waste of time, and if there are programs you want to record permanently...FORGET IT! Using the DVD player to view JPEG images is also a waste of time! one minute it shows JPEG images no problem, the next minute it plays havoc and refuses to even work at all and won`t even show ANY JPEG images whatsoever! When it does show images, they`re AWFUL at the best of times and the image quality is POOR and no matter how much enhancing of images I do on my PC prior to storing onto disc, ...
