AS usual Amazon delivered before the estimated date. I've never had a dictation recording device before so I can't compare this product. I will say it is very easy to use & with the additional mic suggested on the product description page, gives a very clear recording/playback even quiet background sounds are picked up.

Love this product! Delivery was very prompt. Received within a couple of days of ordering. Compact design without too many complicated buttons to play with. Very easy to set up and use. Got mine done in less than five minutes! Not bad for a middle aged guy! Instructions were very easy to follow. Once I'd put my glasses on! The range of the internal mic is suprisingly good. I could pick up people talking normally from 5 or 6 metres away! All that you would want from this kind of product and at a very reasonable price. I'd recommend this item to anyone looking for simplicity and value for money.

I bought this item as an aid to learning to play the button accordion. The tutor plays the tune and I can go home and practice, slowing down the music as necessary. Beats recording on my mobile any day. I have been to traditional music sessions and used it to record tunes which I downloaded to my PC then onto CD and gave to a lady who wanted to learn the tunes. It was so light I could carry in in my shirt pocket and with a bit of practice I could turn record on and off with no difficulty without removing it. I took it to a concert recently and sat at the front (having first obtained the permission of the virtuosos about to play. I recorded about two hours of music, returned home and using the USB connection (no leads, just like a memory stick) ... Read More:

I used this machine for recording interviews as part of my social science studies and, although considerably cheaper when I bought mine, it is a good basic tape recorder with good sound quality and an excellent range. I don't see any point spending more money if this is the kind of thing you are going to use it for.

The Olympus USA site has a better product description than anywhere I have seen, so take a look. The 'S' in WS-210S = Stereo (I think), so any product without an 'S' at the end is a mono recorder.
Amazingly small and light. Files are stored in Windows Media Audio format so will play in Windows Media Player, without any need for conversion.
It has a 'USB Direct' USB plug contained withit the recorder so it can be plugged directly into a pc. It does come with a short USB extension lead just in case your PC's USB port is tucked away.
A few features described:
1) Microphone sensitivity - Low = Dictation or High = Conference; Low cuts out some background noise.
This recorder has a serious design fault. It jams and gives an ERR message which can only be corrected by holding in the DISP/MENU and STOP buttons for two seconds, which results in all the material on the recorder being erased. There are numerous complaints on the Web by people who have had exactly the same problem. DON'T BUY IT!

The Olympus VN-2100PC digital voice recorder has a load of excellent features, and one pain. The good bits: it's simple to make and play back recordings, and to organise them in folders. The unit itself is light and small enough to fit in any pocket, so easy to take and use anywhere. It runs for ages on a pair of AAA batteries, and has plenty of recording capacity, depending on the quality of recording you choose. The bad bit? If you want to transfer the recordings somewhere else, it's a bit fiddly. First, you have to set up the "Digital Wave Player" software on your PC, then transfer the files. But they're not MP3 files, but something called WAV format. If you want MP3 files, eg to play on my iPod, which I synch to an Apple, you have to download ... Read More:

I am the harshest critic I know. I am not easily please with electronics especially if they don't perform everything they're meant to do. This particular product exceeds my expectation and is the best on the matket. I have carried out extensive research and all was pointing to this one. Tip on if you're using this:
Buy a powerful battery; it will last.
Set the settings to low cut (reduces general noise level), HQ (high quality, although have to sacrifice space) and enable voice filter (lowers crowd level and concentrates on main speaker).
