Acer Aspire One A150-Bb Netbook, Windows XP Home, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB HD (Sapphire Blue)from: Acer August 18, 2008 |

I have just purchased the Acer Asspre One Windows XP Home edition from a major retailer on the strength of the recommendations on Amazon. So far, it looks like an excellent item. However, I have found that by purchasing this item, I have been unknowingly locked into an Office 2007 60 day trial. (If you don't agree, you can't use the XP features.) You have to go through quite a fiasco to obtain a key that enables you to use the XP facilities, but, only if you agree to trial Office 07 for 60 days. Presumably, after 60 days I will only be able to continue use by paying the $149 dollars mentioned on the Microsoft link. I so wanted to love this machine - oh to be finally free from Windows with a small, durable and reasonable performant machine....
It was bought from Currys (same price as Amazon plus the ability to go back when it all goes wrong) as a laptop for my wife for basic WP,email and web-browsing. The fundamental issue; as reported fairly widely on the web (check amazon's USA site) is that WiFi reliability is very very hit-and-miss. My machine connects about once every hundred goes - even when sitting right by the wireless router. There seems to be a problem accepting the security credentials - and it just drops the connection. was very happy with it in all respects. actually bought it from e-buyer and returned it today for full refund due to the keyboard feezing after three weeks, apparently due to a hardare problem. now going to buy same acer aspire 5315 model from amazon as it happens to be £10 cheaper and I know amazon have a good customer service policy too.

Purchased one of these (1GB, 120GB version) last week and it arrived yesterday and I must say I think it's great. Not only does it look cool it's really easy to get running and use. Wireless connection was a breeze and basically the thing just works straight out of the box.
To test it out I played some MP3's and tried it with the BBC's iPlayer and it worked perfectly (with headphones anyway, the built in speakers are very poor). The web cam, contrary to some reviews, is actually really good, I tried it out with the built in messenger and was chatting with my daughter on MS Messenger in no time. Very impressed with this netbook. Linux and the solid state drive makes it very fast. None of the usual going away to make your dinner while Vista boots stuff. Also unlike Vista this connects to the internet first try every time, in airports, in hotels, as well as at home. OpenOffice more than meets all my needs, very easy to use. Highly recommended

I bought the Acer P193W this week and I have been absolutely delighted with it. The Amazon reviewers did help me make my choice - I have never bought a LCD screen before - and those that gave rave reviews weren't wrong. I would have liked a bit more information on how to set up my computer with the correct resolution, perhaps Acer could give more info on their site as for me it was quite complicated. But well done Acer on a great product.

Ordered from Amazon yesterday and it arrived at work this morning. Came round to my nippers tonight, straight from work, and excitedly unpacked. Bootup is in seconds and within 5 minutes I'd connected to her wireless lan and was connected to the net. Configured the e-mail application for gmail within 1 minute and had all my bookmarks installed via Foxmarks into the Firefox browser. This Linux is so simple and intuitive. No desktop as such just 4 blocks for connecting, work, files and games I think the last one was. Just click on the relevant icon within each and off you go. I have just taken delivery of this Acer X222W and could not be happier with it for the price - looks really good sat on my desk and not one pixel out of place in the screen. I read the other rewiews and this was highly regarded and hasn't dissapointed.
