Polarising filters are magical things. They can reduce reflections from non metallic surfaces with merely a twist of the ring!
Another use of polarising filters is to enhance colour saturation. Have you ever seen a photograph with the deepest blue sky you've ever seen and wondered how the photographer did it? Have you ever looked at your own pale blue, wishy washy skies and thought how on earth do I do this!?!? Look no further.
By turning the ring on a circular polariser you can adjust the amount of the effect it will create. They work best when the lens is pointed at 90 degrees to the sun, in other words the sun is on your left or right, not in front or behind. They are useful wherever you want deeper colour saturation ... Read More:

There is not really much to say about this filter - it does exactly what it says on the tin! Pictures taken in sunlight are more precise and less hazy because UV light is filtered out.
This filter is cheap and specific enough to be left on permanently as a protector for your valuable front lens. It won't have any appreciable effect on photographs taken indoors etc.
It is worth mentioning that the filter is through-threaded, so you can screw another filter or other lens accessory onto the front of it once it is mounted.

A must when at high altitude and in sunny situations. Hoya polariser and filters are multi coated which is a necessity with digital SLR.

I am working in the lasers domain so I had chance to see many very expensive optical components.
This filter has such high quality anti-reflection coating that when I opened the box and I have taken the filter in hand my first impression was that the filter is missing from the holder so I touched it with the finger to check. Impressive indeed. No absorbtion and it will protect your lens.
I think that no lens shoud come without a filter to protect it, particularly the pro ones.
Fits very well on an Zuiko lens used in conjunction with an Olympus E-510.
Does what it says on the packet, and fitted with ease. However, now it's on my lens that came with my Nikon D40 (18-55mm) it's jammed on and I can't get it off again. If you buy one of these be careful!

I bought this for my canon 28-135mm Zoom lens and have been superbly impressed by the filter. Just brings out the colour and especially clouds on landscapes superbly. Hoya as ever have a great filter here.

As M. Potter says, this is meant as a lens protector, and it works just fine in that capacity. I've noticed no changes in my photographs. I don't know about it helping with haze or whatever, but if you want this as a basic cheap lens protector it works fine in that regard.
But make sure to check your lens diameter before buying! You can either find this at the bottom of your lens barrel near the camera body or at the end on the rim around the lens glass itself. There should be a Ø symbol with a number next to it. This is your lens diameter. If it says Ø 52 then this filter will fit your lens. If not then you need to buy a filter with the appropriate diameter. I can confirm that this fits perfectly on the Nikon D40 kit lens (the 18 ... Read More:

This filter is perfect to use as a permanently-attached protector for the front lens element of your expensive lenses. It's very well built and the glass is fairly thick, but optically very very good.
A minor downside of this filter is that the ring fitting is fairly long, so I wouldn't recommend installing this onto lenses less than 17mm (28mm equivalent) or you might start seeing the filter at the edges.
Overall a very good filter at a cheap price, recommended on all lenses above 17mm just to be safe!

I replaced a Jessops non-multicoated UV filter with this on my 18 - 135 Nikon / D80 combo and the difference was stunning. Better colour saturation and less ghosting, without causing vignetting because it is so thin. Everything looks less hazy. I'm even impressed by the comparison in price. and of course it protects the front element of my lens .
