My son has one of these to operate his D80. The other day he left it in his jeans and it did 40 minutes at 40°. Luckily my wife spotted it before it went onto the spin cycle.

Had a toss up recently between this and the Canon EOS1000D. Bought the D40 for my daughter and its a cracking little camera out of the box. Felt good, solid, great quality.
So in the end I plumped for the Canon, just to have a change. The second I took it out the box my mistake was evident - the difference in quality feel to even the D40 is unbelievable. Plasticy feel, cheep non tactile buttons, poor layout on the rear. I was gutted. Straight back in the box and straight back. tata. So just got the D60 and again, out the box the quality just feels right. Solid, great feel, buttons just right. "Spare" battery. Pretty much essential for all but the most casual of users. So, if you're using the likes of a D80 and above you're probably a "keen amateur".

I am pleased with the camera itself but didn't appreciate that delivery was from the Netherlands. As such, the instructions, which appear comprehensive, come in 4 languages but none of them are English. In addition, the battery charger power lead comes with a european pin plug. A UK plug was enclosed but you either need to change the plug yourself or use an adaptor. None of this was apparent when I ordered the camera and whilst not a serious problem, it was certainly frustrating.

I have owned one of these for 18 months. In that time it has broken twice, on both occasions the lens was mounted on the camera and reasonably protected, and I am anything but an action photographer. After the most recent failure Nikon are quoting £130 to fix it, so I think I'm going to call it a day on this particular model. When it was working the image quality was good enough; that is to say it had a number of limitations (fairly widely reviewed) but in most cases images can be fixed by post processing by DX-Pro or similar. The VR kind-of-works, as someone said it's a good way of getting images of blurred sportsmen running across razor sharp grass. It is a good price mind, and perhaps I have been unlucky but it is very flimsy.

This is a great little set of 3 filters; UV, polariser and flourescent filters in a nice little case to keep them together. These fit perfectly onto the Nikon D40 with a Nikon 18-55 kit lens and also the Nikkor 55-200 VR lens too & the case is handy for putting them in the big bag so they don't get ruined. They give good results if used in the appropriate manner - I have no complaints!
