As other reviews have stated this is a very good dvd player - great value for money.
I was thinking of getting a more expensive player with upscaling abilities but, after reading an article in a av forum which said that the difference was very small and that average consumers would probably only be able to identify the upscale dvd player when viewing side by side with a cheaper one, I decided not to bother and save my money.
Whether this is true or not I don't really know, Anyway this cheap(ish) Toshiba player provides an excellent picture and sound.
But a couple of points to remember - (1) it connects to your tv via a SCART to SCART connection cable and NOT a HDMI cable. There is no HDMI connection on the player. (2) the ... Read More:

I purchased this yesterday 14th Dec from Amazon Uk. Received today 15th Dec. Qucik and excellent service. HDMI cable not included. One connected the HDMI/1080p picture is amazing on a Philips LCD TV. Used Easylink which philips provide to link up various entertainment kits. The picture colours, contrast and sharpness is amazing.
A very small DVD Player that would fit on a glass wall bracket if needed to connect on the wall.
I recommend this to anyone who enjoys 1080p and High Definition picture quality.
Impressed with Amazon and the kit itself. Philips do provide quality. The remote control is quality too.
There is a way to open and close the DVD tray...something that is not in the instructions for the machine. If you hold the `stop` button in for a few seconds, the words `Open` appears and the tray opens up. Press and hold again to close the tray. I found this, as my VHS player has the same function and I tried it out! Great machine...i bought 3 of them and using one until that one wears out!

I bought this dvd player based on the reviews here, especially regarding region 1 hack. However everybody should be aware that the hack doesn't work. It looks as though Samsung have made changes. It is impossible to get the no disc sign off to allow the sequence to begin. Pity as the main reason I bought it was for the kids to watch a pile of their old region 1 discs. Seems okay otherwise, basic dvd player.

I have only had this DVD Freeview Recorder for less than a week and I absolutely love it! We have a HUMAX (which has changed our lives for the better) but there are so many good films on over Christmas this year that we wanted to keep to play again (and not use up space on the hard drive); also our freeview receiver upstairs packed up so after researching a bit chose this fantastic machine. VHS is a real hassle now so wanted to get rid of my Video Player and have managed to copy my videos onto DVD which is a bonus. I bought some of those DVD ram disks, which are super BUT you cannot play on an ordinary DVD player. I am very pleased with my purchase and would thoroughly recommend.

Spent weeks trying to decide which model to buy. My priorities included a) Quiet b) Easy to Use c) Easy to Install d) Compatible with my existing equipment (includes Epson Projector, LG Cinema Sound, Sharp LCD. It came up trumps in all requirements. My wife could not get on with my previous LG DVD recorder...far too complicated, but within 30 mins was recording to HDD quite merrily. The manual looks daunting, but to be up and running you need about 3 pages only. The manual is available on-line at Sony's site, so I got everything planned before it arrived.
A couple of Reviews on the "Black" version complained about noise ... must have been a faulty item, and another about intrusive LEDs but neither have been noted.
Just set up our system, generally really impressed. Sound quality is excellent, a bit confusing getting the sound settings correct. The woofer is BIG, which is a bit of a let down. Also can be a bit difficult arranging your inputs into the system if you've got a lot, for example sky HD, PS3, HD TV and Wii has left me pondering which way round to wire them all in for the best results.

Ordered my HT-TZ315R HOME CINEMA SYSTEM on Boxing day and was really happy when it arrived 3 days later. I was torn between this and a Sony system but went for this to match my Samsung TV. It was really easy to connect up with my Samsung LCD TV and took less than one hour. I've hooked it upto my Xbox 360 too and gaming and films have never been so good... until last night when the DVD player started to turn itself off mid film. I tried different discs in it and they all did the same so I went to bed and thought I'd sort it out tomorrow. The player decided to overheat and produced a bit of smoke.
Needless to say I've organised a return and refund from Amazon and I'll be buying the Sony system instead. Not a happy bunny!
