I've just read the other review and am sadly upset by it. Let's bore you to death first. A review is only any use if the person who writes it has had experience of buying duff items. At 59 I've bought a lot of things I regretted.
I bought my GHD8015f2 almost 2 yrs ago. It was an impulse purchase and the best thing I've ever bought. Why?
Well, it is simpler to use than my mobile phone. It does everything I want it to do without ever letting me down. the picture quality on playback is exactly the same as the original broadcast.
Noisy? When you press the RECORD button the hard disk kicks in and makes a whirring sound for about 3 seconds, the noise thereafter is no more than ... Read More:

I am about to buy a second machine for another TV in the house, tried other makes out with DVD recorders but the were complex and noisy. By buying a second one it gives double the disk space and records from alternative channels at the same time and it works out as cheap as purchasing the double space with double record facility. It's very easy, efficient and gives good sound and image. Definately recommend to technophobes who simply want to record and watch.

I have had this recorder for over a year now. Strictly speaking I am now on my fifth one. One of the features listed in the instruction book is archiving which is supposed to allow you to select a number of programmes for playing one after another so you can leave it to record onto DVD or tape. This doesn't work. I have spoken and emailed Hitachi's techs so many times my head hurts. They maintain that the ones they have tried do work. All of the one's I've had allow you to set it all up then when you set it going all it does is play the sound with a blank screen. It's fine if you set a single programme playing. But if you want to archive a series it's a pain having to do one episode after another.

This is the only recorder I have ever had. I bought it to record occasionally and it has always done the job. Set up was pretty easy and the manual is very comprehensive. I have never had any problems with the quality of playback of DVDs or recording quality. I also plugged my external hard drive through it to play videos I had downloaded from the internet because my TV did not have AV input. The only limitation is that it will only use DVD+R or DVD+RW discs for recording. For non-experts like me it has does the job fine.

I initially bought this machine as I thought it would be handy to have the option of transferring between tape and DVD.
The first problem occurred when I tried to edit DVD recordings (ie splitting into chapters). Often this would just freeze the machine and I'd have to pull the plug to reset it. Upgrades didn't help. After about a year's use, it started to corrupt DVD recordings, it became so reliably unreliable that eventually it was pointless to try recording anything to disc.
It is now just an over-expensive video recorder. With the exception that the timer is so unreliable that you can't switch the machine to stand by as it will often fail to turn on. Multiple timer recordings are also a journey into the unknown. Some "functionality" ... Read More:
