I replaced my Tom Tom 300 Go with the Garmin Nuvi 350T which has now irritated me so much I have already replaced it with a Tom Tom 530T. The Nuvi 350T forces you to accept a safety message each time you start it, then it doesn't look for satellites until after you have typed in the destination on a non-qwerty keyboard, swapping back and forth to a separate numeral keyboard as necessary, and then is slow to lock on. It gives verbal lane and roundabout exit information too late for safety, uses feet and not yards, does not change volume with speed, and doesn't show your actual speed or the distance to destination. I found the device easy to use and very intuitive; it's software worked very well and the updates were very good..however.. the main reason I bought this unit, the ability to know what traffic is doing ahead of me and suggest detours, simply doesn't work.
The guy at Halfords helpfully informed me that it doesn't work in Surrey (which would have been great advice had it been given at the point of purchase!) and that because all manufacturers seem to be using TMC now there is No sat nav that can help. The ONE has now been returned and I await developments with interest. (He mentioned digital units that should be available soon...?) My old case gave up the ghost after 2 years of daily use; the fabric hing tore. This case seems robust, fits my Tugsten E easily and remains compact. I'm very happy with it.

I agree with many of the pros and cons detailed by other people. However I think this is a very good machine indeed! Having used TomTom for 4 years I am bored with it (like a Nokia Phone I suppose), I was looking for a change so I decided on a Sony, for £100 it gives you map up to Paris (that's exactly what I wanted, I just need a sat nav that can take me to Calais! Buying a whole Western Europe map would be a waste of money for me as I would never think of driving that far anyway), wide screen, day/night auto screen adjustment. What more do you expect? A TomTom One couldn't give you those!
The machine catches signal within seconds if you switch on at the same place as you switch off previously. Otherwise it may take a minute or so to find a signal. ... Read More: >>More Details |

I have this N60i unit and T/Tom Euro mapping in a Nokia e61.
Firstly, the screen size. The N/man screen is over twice the width of my Nokia screen [and about the same depth]. The extra width is redundant - not worth paying for. In addition, widescreen units result in a much bigger lump to carry about/store. My phone goes into my shirt pocket. The N60 has to go in a bag or br/case. It's over 4x the volume and weight of the Nok. One aspect of the size I would have expected to see is massive battery life from a big, meaty cell. Not so. The juice runs out on this unit faster than that in my Nokia. It's absolutely essential to run this unit from the car outlet. It's driving all those pointless pixels, see?
