It's well presented and has some nice colour photographs but if you're looking for recipes, try another book.
Most of the recipes use cake mixes and for someone living in the UK, these cake mixes with instant pudding added are not available. I was expecting 100 new cupcake recipes instead I've got 100 variations using cake mixes.
There are some recipes in the back but not enough to justify buying it. If you buy "Betty Crocker Decorating Cakes and Cupcakes" you'll get the same recipes. This is a poor addition to the Betty Crocker range of books.

I already owned Peggy Porschen's previous book "Pretty Party Cakes", so just knew this one would be equally good. The book has been invaluable as I have made several celebration cakes, and find that her designs are so pretty and she explains each stage with care so it is easy to understand. I always use the different flavourings she describes for the cake mixture, buttercream and soaking syrups, which make such a difference to the taste of the cake. I also found the tables at the end of the book very useful for working out the quantities of cake mixture, sugar paste and marzipan required for cakes / boards etc., especially for my first wedding cake which turned out wonderfully. I also used her instructions for making roses which were very ... Read More:

Another brilliant cake book from Debbie Brown. The designs in this book can be approached by a first time cake maker or a professional. I make cakes for a living and own all of Debbie Brown's books, they never fail to inspire you and the designs always have a touch of humour. Where would the cake world be without this woman she really is the Queen of Sugarpaste.

I ordered this book a few months ago before it was published, I was so excited when it arrived a few days ago. Firstly the book looks beautiful and it has the seal of approval from the coeliac uk charity which appears to be good. When you look inside and start making the recipes however, it is clear that there is nothing new. All the recipes use mainly brown rice flour. If you are a coeliac and have experimented with gluten-free cooking, you will know that the texture using mainly rice flour is inferior to a mixture of different gluten-free flours.
I was so disappointed as there is really nothing new here. You would be better off just using one of your existing books and changing the gluten containing flour to gluten-free because, it appears that ... Read More:

A great book with some excellent ideas. Major drawback is that all weights and measures are in "cups". Not an easy method to grasp when most of the world uses "mils" or "grams".
Cooking times are very ambitious, ie if I cook any of my bread for the 45 minutes stated in a lot of recipes I will end up with charcoal.
That being said, for the person who uses recipe books as a guide, and not as an instruction book, this is an excellent read.

I picked up this book in my local library, flicked through the pages, and thought "Yes! I need this book asap". There are recipes given here for what seems like every cake / biscuit / bread you might possibly want to bake, and every one has a gorgeous picture to illustrate what it OUGHT to look like. Even if you don't think of yourself as a mad, keen baker then you should buy this book - I have, I've tried a few of the recipes, and they worked with no hassle whatsoever. What else does anyone want?

A wonderful book for a complete novice in cake decorating! Lots of brilliant ideas which look really impressive but are amazingly easy to make and without a piping bag in sight. I keep coming back to it and you really can make a cake that looks like the one in the picture. After the last one I was even told I should go into business........and I promise anyone reading this that I am not a confident cook. Thankyou Carol for dispelling the fear and for all the compliments which I would never have received without your instructions.
