I ordered this one three seperate times from amazon stores before eventually recieving my copy through amazon but I tell you it was well worth the wait! This has to be my most recommended book for people who enjoy home baking! This book contains almost any biscuit recipe you can think of and also includes savoury crackers, muffins, scones and traybakes! It has a lovely section at the front which gives you some insigt into the history of cookies and biscuits. I haven't put this one down since buying it! If you are going to buy one book dedicated to baking cookies buy this one!(it even gives you hints on wrapping and packaging biscuits as gifts!!

No matter how many pounds you expend on this book you will get them all back, and more! They may not be the kind of pounds you want, but as you're standing on the scales seeing another stone clock up, you will, at least, be happy! These recipes are so feel-good! I mean, I never had 'Oatmeal Muffins' before but I feel like I've been eating them all my life, so nostalgic i feel munching into one. The recipes are fairly simple, and they always seem to work. The cakes are invariably FANTASTIC. Try the apple and walnut butterscotch layer cake. gee, that sure is the kind of cake momma used to make. What am I talking aabout? I don't speak like that.... but this book makes me, so good are these cakes.

This is a nicely produced book. The recipes in the front are very useful. Some of the ideas for cakes are lovely however the techniques leave a little to be desired by a British sugarcrafter. 'Covering a cake with marzipan' shows a badly shaped cake but no attempt is made to correct it before covering. 'Working with fresh flowers' shows how to wire fresh flowers and then suggests they can be inserted straight into the cake! Taping the wire of a sweet peas - starting at the free end and working up to the flower and then dampening the tape to hold it in place!???? The cake 'Champagne Bubbles' and 'Baroque Splendour'the royal icing 'bubbles' all have points on them and the 'Butterfly Tower' of individual cakes - again the wired butterflies are all ... Got this book for Christmas 07 and am slowly but surely working my way through it.
Simple, easy to follow and well explained. My only slight fault would be I would like even just a little picture beside each recipe to see how it's supposed to turn out. Other than that, 10/10 >>More Details |

This is the second book of the series, and as ever is fantastic. The book is slighty more advanced than the first is is packed full of very useful and help step by step tips. There are sections all about chocolate, embroidery, making flowers, recipes, runouts, figure piping, bas relief, marzipan....I could go on because the techniques are endless. A must have for a cake maker or someone who just wants to try different methods and styles.

I make cakes for a living and own all of Maisie's books. This is a little paperback which I find a great reference source if I just need to pop a few cows or a cheeky sheep or duck on a cake. Recommended one for the book shelf which will come in handy for years.

I'd agree with other reviewers that it's maybe not for total novices, but I love this books and all the cakes I've made from it have turned out very nicely (except for the glaze for the flourless chocolate cake, cake was great, glaze didn't work). A couple of friends who are less domestically inclined than me bought the book after browsing through it at my house and they love it too. Plus it really is a beautiful read.

This book got me interested in a cake decorating course, simply put but when followed acheive good results. Would recommend it to those wanting to attept to decorate a cake for the first time and those wanting some inspiration.

I love baking and have stacks of books but I have never bought a bread making book as most recipe books seem to cover it in some form or another. But I borrowed this book from the library out of curiosity and as it's the school summer holidays I thought it would be fun to try and make some unusual bread with the kids. I have been so pleased with the book and the choice of recipes I have decided to buy a copy for my own 'cooking library'.
As the other reviews say, there is so much detail about bread baking starting with a gallery of fantastic loaves to tempt you before you even started!!! I got this book as I am hoping to make a tower of cupcakes for my wedding and save the money on getting them made professionally. So far I'm pretty pleased with this book. There is quite a variety - so far I have tried the Coconut, Banoffee and Passionfruit cupcakes. All of the cakes turned out very well. My only complaint is the toppings. The banoffee icing turned out well, but both the icings for the cocunut and passionfruit cakes were extremly runny and not usable, so I had to invent my own toppings (which were yummy if I say so myself!). Generally though this is a good book with some good ideas.
