This is a superb book - all the instructions are so easy to follow - tells you every little step so you can't go wrong. The photos are all so clear and show you exactly what to aim for which helps a great deal. I've made the racing car and the party animal and they looked so brilliant you can't quite believe what you've achieved!

Would recommend this for all cake decorators, some items may be beyond the scope of the novice, but the book sets the standard. Some brilliant ideas and all should enjoy it and aim to acheive some of the wonderful results.

This is a very good book for beginners and also has some very useful tips for more advanced cake decorators. The best part of this book is the very detailed and step-by-step way in which flower-making in sugarcraft is explained with photos for every stage for flowers - for example, a rose is explained in 6 stages. However there are only very few flowers - the best ones are the rose, sweet pea and poppy.
Also there is an overview of all the techniques you will ever need in decorating a cake - piping, lace making, smocking, figure-modelling, runouts, etc. The only section I found a bit disappointing was the children's cakes section, which I felt did not have any new or interesting ideas. But, overall - an excellent buy.

I found this book a little disappointing compared to Lindy Smiths other books, I was expecting more exciting cakes. There are only 15 cakes in the book and they cover lots of different themes. I do think the cakes would be easy for a novice decorator to create though so if you are new to decorating this may be a good book to have on your book shelf.

This book appears to be one of a series of books by Good Housekeeping that showcase over 100 easy recipes in a particular category - in this case pies!
There are six sections to the book: basics; savoury pies and pastries; meat, fish and vegetable tarts; sweet pies and pastries; classic sweet tarts and indulgent dessert tarts.
The basics section shows you how to make each different type of pastry (shortcrust, puff, flaky, choux etc) as well as having a few recipes for accompaniments. These recipes include salad, French dressing, chips, ice cream and custard. As well as this, there are plenty of hints and tips as well as useful information on how to peel and prepare various fruits for use in the pies. This is perfect ... Read More:

This book gets a one star rating because I expected much more from this book. There are only 8 pages of colour photos, and the rest are black and white. I like to see a picture of each recipe in colour so I know what the final product should look like but not all the recipes include a picture in fact very few do. Also, if you are looking for secrets regarding their infamous cupcakes you can get the recipe for the cupcake and frosting online for free. So don't bother buying the book if that is your sole reason for making the purchase. The delicious looking cover tempts you but there isn't anything special inside the pages. I would pass this one.

This book is full of some very realistic looking flowers. It can be alittle difficult to understand how to make some of the flowers at first because to make some I think you need some experience, but having said that once you have a basic understanding, if you reread how to make some of the flowers, it makes alot more sence. Some of the cutters I have found are quite difficult to find, but once you have found them, Alison makes about ten different flowers from the same design. At the end of the book you can see some of her cakes she has made from the flowers and are so realistic and beautiful. At first I thought I would never understand how to make the flowers because they looked complicated but as I said, if you reread, the instructions really ... Read More:

My boss had told a friend that her staff would bake something for her bring-and-buy sale in aid of charity. It was nice of her to volunteer us, unfortunately I (and most of the staff) don't cook very much. Walking through a local homestore a few days before the sale, I spotted this book and thought 'Everyone likes muffins!' I did a taste-test on my flatmates with 2 varieties (the summer berry and white choc, and the triple choc fudge-heaven on earth!), 12 of each. They were all gone in 24 hours. I live with 3 women. The recipes are clear and easy to understand (even to a complete no-hoper like me!), with australian terminology explained at the start of the book for overseas readers. There's basic muffin recipes for ... Read More:

This is a great book. The cakes are fantastic (even if some of the colours are not quite my taste). The designs are becoming classics in the world of cake decorating. Techniques and tips are explained clearly. The photographs are gorgeous. I would recommend this to anyone, beginner or experienced cake decorator. The only poor part are the designs for biscuits, they are nothing like the quality of the cakes (if you are looking for beautiful iced biscuits have a look at Peggy Porchen's book, her cakes are lovely too.) However I love this book and look at it regularly. Buy it.
