Food and Drink : Pretend Soup: And Other Real Recipes

Pretend Soup: And Other Real Recipes

Vegetarian Books Price: Â£14.99

This is not a basic cookbook for young children as I had hoped. It isn't "to inspire an early appreciation for creative, wholesome food" or at "child level" as claimed. It is more of your high end Nigella type idealism but very American and unsuitable at least in it's basic form without adaption for young children to learn cooking skills independently, or follow through on healthy eating promotion.

Examples...
The majority of recipes require a skillet "it is ideal" in fact...but I actually don't have one of those to hand, and not the required electric version. This is the basis for safe child involvement and hence without it, the reader has to adapt and substitute. Other equipment cited included regularly microwaves juicers ... Read More:

Due to a recent heart condition my doctor told me to lose weight. I wanted to go on a low-fat, low-cholesterol, low-sugar and low-sodium diet, but I thought by doing all of that I would never eat good foods again. Boy, was I wrong! I purchased the American Heart Association's Low-Fat, Low-Cholesterol Cookbook and have never tasted better foods. I have not found a recipe that I don't like! Using these recipes and an excellent walking program I have lost almost 50 pounds between February and August 1999. Several of my favorite recipes from this cookbook are: Crispy Oven-Fried Chicken, Chili, Vegetable-Beef Burgers, Spicy Baked Pork Chops and (my favorite) Meat Loaf with Roasted Vegetables (mmmmmmm). My heart is now as strong as ever and ... Read More:

Food and Drink : Mastering the Art of French Cooking: 002 (Mastering the Art of French Cooking)

Mastering the Art of French Cooking: 002 (Mastering the Art of French Cooking)

by: Julia Child
1970-06
Best Selling > Food and Drink > Cooking for Babies and Children

This contains many useful techniques supplementing those set out in the first volume of this pair.
A large portion of the book, however, is given over to extremely elaborate recipes requiring copious amounts of time and access to an old-fashioned butcher.

If you don't have a PhD in cuts of meat, then the meat recipes will be tricky.

The actual ingredients suggested in lots of dishes are unimaginative and whole slews of different recipes end up tasting the same, despite massively time-consuming techniques involved.

This book is, however, pretty essential as a complement to the first volume, in order that your training in French cookery be complete.

The book is of more limited use for family cooking or even ... Read More:
