We have been using this book for about 7 months now, and find the information very helpful in how to feed our new arrival. How to introduce different types of food and when have made life so much easier for my wife and I. The recipes are very easy to follow and we would recommend this book to anyone who has just had a baby.
I bought this cookbook for my 14 year old twin sons, who have always enjoyed cooking alongside me, but never attempted anything on their own before.
They both instantly loved this book, saw lots of things that they fancied cooking, but, unlike many other cookbooks, felt confident enough to give them a go.
My sons are very dyslexic, but they found the layout easy to follow and the pictures useful.
These are not groundbreaking recipes, or even the best renditions of well-known dishes, but they work fine, are well illustrated and introduce young cooks to a range of techniques in a very straightforward, jargon free way.
There are also (from my point of view) helpful comments on diet and nutrition, ... Read More:

I first came across this book in the nursery where I work and with one flick through it I knew I had to own it. The recipes are fantastic to cook with your little ones, but I have found myself baking lots from the book for packed lunches without the children (peanut butter cookies and frangipanni wheels are great). There are also some seasonal ideas like cobweb cookies for halloween and some recipes for christmas and easter.
If you like sweet treats this is the book for you whether you have children or not!

At first I thought this book was brilliant but actually it's got incorrect information in it which could be a danger to your child and I couldn't trust it!!
In the 4-7 month category it has recipes for oats and meat. If you're weaning your child before 6 months you should know that you cannot give meat to them and only gluten free oats, which it doesn't mention.
I wouldn't trust this book and will not be using it. Unfortunately I didn't get to look at it until it was too late to return.

This is such a beautiful selection of cakes for children. The pirate dreams cake of a sleepy boy setting sail on his bed in the sea is so lovely and I have made it a few times, it's such a lovely change to a standard pirate ship or treasure chest. My daughter has been asking for the sleeping beauty cakes for months and her birthday has finally come around and she will be getting that one next week. I would say that not all of Debbie's cakes are that easy for beginners, I make cakes for a living fo am happy to tackle any of these but I remember the days that Debbie's books were just ones I flicked through but did not attempt and this could be one of those for people with less experience. If you are unsure I would recommend the 50 easy party cakes ... Read More:

great recipes (shame no pics tho - i do like a recipe book to have pics) which we are still using in our house (not just the toddler recipes) cos they're healthy, low on salt, sugar ecetera and as littlun has got older we've just stopped pureeing them.
good buy and plenty of scope for improvisation if you don't have the exact ingredients

My baby has loved every recipe I've tried from "Small Helpings." Whether you live in an area that has a wide variety of organic jarred baby foods (without additives) available -- or in a developing economy that doesn't (like I do) -- this book is a treat! The recipes are simple and usually quick, most of the ingredients are easy to find almost anywhere, and Karmel's down-to-earth style is reassuring for those of us who aren't gourmets. It contains sections on weaning, starting solids and nutrition that I found helpful, and the recipes are divided up by age group, so you don't have to guess what's appropriate for your six-month-old. It's been a life-saver.
