This is such a beautiful selection of cakes for children. The pirate dreams cake of a sleepy boy setting sail on his bed in the sea is so lovely and I have made it a few times, it's such a lovely change to a standard pirate ship or treasure chest. My daughter has been asking for the sleeping beauty cakes for months and her birthday has finally come around and she will be getting that one next week. I would say that not all of Debbie's cakes are that easy for beginners, I make cakes for a living fo am happy to tackle any of these but I remember the days that Debbie's books were just ones I flicked through but did not attempt and this could be one of those for people with less experience. If you are unsure I would recommend the 50 easy party ... Read More:

My baby has loved every recipe I've tried from "Small Helpings." Whether you live in an area that has a wide variety of organic jarred baby foods (without additives) available -- or in a developing economy that doesn't (like I do) -- this book is a treat! The recipes are simple and usually quick, most of the ingredients are easy to find almost anywhere, and Karmel's down-to-earth style is reassuring for those of us who aren't gourmets. It contains sections on weaning, starting solids and nutrition that I found helpful, and the recipes are divided up by age group, so you don't have to guess what's appropriate for your six-month-old. It's been a life-saver.

As a young adult librarian, and an amature cook, I have nothing but good things to say about this cookbook. I found it to be well designed, fun to read, and highly informative, but never intimidating. I've been pushing it every chance I get, and plan to buy a copy for my teenage brother...plus as a graduation gift for my cousins. The illustrations are wacky, but not childish. My favorite detail is the collection of icons used to show what catagories recipes fall into. This book is the perfect combination of entertainment and useful information!

I bought this book hoping for new ideas about what to feed the kids, and I'm delighted with the results. It's absolutely packed full of recipes and, while it covers some of the more exotic vegetables, it's also got plenty of suggestions for new ways of making the old favourites more appealing. But what I like best about the book is the fact that these really are dishes which the whole family can enjoy - the adults are as happy eating them as the kids. I have a fussy four year old who, much to our amazement, has happily munched through sweet potatoes with a spicy dressing, and this has kickstarted us into encouraging her to try more new tastes. So I wholeheartedly recommend this book - and it's a good read too!

This book is fab. I cook for twins who are 19 months old so I adapt the receipes to suit them. I think the recipes are very yummy, and my kids think so too. The aloha Kebabs are delicious - i cook extra for myself always. The children's favorite is the Avecado spread on their bread.
The meals take on average about 40 minutes in total including the prep, which isn't that long in my opinion and they are all so easy.
I know the slogan is to decpetively put vegetables in each meal, which I do as per the recipe, but I always put a seperate vegetable on the side of their meal so they learn to accept and eat them. My twins love their vegetables and enjoy eating these meals.
This book is a life saver. They are getting a variety of healty ... Read More:

a great little book that gives loads of ideas for lunches of all types.
The book covers everything from sandwiches to salads and sweet treats. The recipies are easy to follow and fairly simple with lots of info regarding the time things take to prepare and what can be frozen or made in advance.
There aren't many pictures so if you need them to guide you when cooking you might want to try a different book - but the instructions are clear and they do work. Given the number and range of recipies this book includes its easily one of the best value buys for lunch box recipies.

As with many recipe books oriented at parents desperately seeking something sensible to satisfy small tummies and generate some enthusiasm from their children, this book fills out space with things you probably already know- after all you are looking at a healthy eating book. There is a lot of information on nutrition and related issues which is repetition of what you'll most likely have seen esewhere, BUT, at the back, the small recipe section is filled with easy to make things that have my fussy two and four year olds showing enough interest to keep mealtime to a manageable 30 minutes with little nagging. This book is well worth a look for busy parents of all kinds - unpretentious and useful.

This is a fantastic book. Written by a chef who knows what healthy eating is all about, but who is also a mother so knows just how precious time can be when looking after children. Mainly fresh ingredients are used, which may sound time consuming, but you can also make up freezer batches and bring them out when you just have a few minutes to get something ready....and you know it is all good food that you will also want to eat and share at mealtimes. Brilliant.
