While the author pays lip service to the importance of breastfeeding, this is really a formula feeding book:
- It gives no support whatsoever for the breast feeding mother, but minute advice about bottle feeding.
- The author makes very lightly of the risks of formula feeding.
- Several common misconceptions about breast feeding are reinforced, e.g. the myth that large babies need formula supplements and that many mothers have insufficient milk supplies. The phrase "pressures of modern life" offers a welcome excuse for women who cannot be bothered to commit themselves to what is REALLY the best nutrition for their child.
Having purchased this book on spec I have to say it is by far the best book I have every purchased. My cooking skills have increased by 100% and my children now love my home cooking. This book is by far the best baby recipe book I have seen, tryed and purchased. As a 1st time mum I was paranoid about cooking the right things for my daughter and having the time to cook it all and have spent a small fortune on various recipe books, but this one is the best. All the reipes are quick and easy, yet nutritious and my daughter loves every single one of them. Highly recommened!!!!

I think this book is great. My baby is 9 months old and she loves all the recipes in this book, having been quite a fussy eater before I started cooking these recipes. They are all easy to follow and make and I have to admit that sometimes find myself quite pleased if she leaves a mouthful or two so that I can have some too!!
The only downside for me is that I couldn't find any reference to how big a 'portion' is. But I've had the same problem with all the other baby cook books I have or have referred to.

I've bought lots through Amazon over the years and this is the first time I've felt strongly enough to write a review. I've no complaints about the information in this book, but I found the tone and style so offputting that I stopped reading after a couple of chapters and have given it away. Basically it felt like the author was making a lot of assumptions about my views just because I'm pregnant and a vegetarian (for example by speaking about the joys of creating life without taking life (i.e. eating meat)) and it made the book very annoying to read.
I guess I like the 'rough guide to pregnancy' style, which is peer-to-peer, modern, informative and amusing - in contrast this title felt like I'd gone back in time with traditional ... Read More:

I have been thinking about purchasing this book for some time, but kept telling myself it wouldn't tell me anything I didn't already know. How wrong I was!! My 9 year old son is an academy football player, and has 3 demanding 2-hr sessions a week. Despite being very fit, he was running out of steam towards the end of matches. I decided it could be due to poor food choices, especially too much sugar-rich, high-fat, nutrient-deficient snacks. So, I finally bought this book, hoping it would guide us in the right direction. It is a superb point of reference, and my son picks it up to check what is good for an after-school/pre-training snack etc.. The recipes are wholesome and nutritious, there are plenty of meal/snack suggestions for specific ... Read More:

I found various things in this book very interesting and useful. Mainly the recipes using the blender and raw ingredient combinations, the cakes, bars and little extras section (all vegan), the banana bread recipe is really easy and delicious. Also contains interesting info regarding juicing for babies which I hadn't considered until I read this book.
