This book has saved my life! I always struggle when I have my veggie friends round for dinner to find something different. But this book has given me so many ideas I'm going to have to have more dinner parties!

Finally, I've found somebody who has told me that dieting doesn't work and actually PROVED to me that he's right! I never would have believed it but I've found the solution to my health and weight problems all in one book (or two - because I found the 7 lbs in 7 days juicing plan an absolute 'must'). This man talks little rubbish, doesn't pussy-foot around with words and makes complete and utter sense just as long as you're open to admitting it! You really cannot disagree with anything here. Whether you follow the plan itself or not, I would defy anybody who reads this book not to think twice before diving into that packet of biccies or frying up a pound of sausages - and perhaps (even hopefully??) choosing an alternative.
I bought this book knowing virtually nothing about bees (they exist, they live in hives and they make honey was about the sum total of my knowledge).
I have been considering keeping bees for a while and thought that a little reading would help guide me to a decision.
From memory, the book covers: types of bees (not just honey bees), types of hives, the gear required by the beekeeper, where bee hives can be situated, how bees can be purchased, the maintenance of the colony & hive, pests and how to mitigate their impact, the social structure of the bee colony, the way honey is produced by the bees, the 'swarming' of bees, how to harvest honey from the hive and how to store the harvested honey. There's definitely more - my memory just ... Read More:

First of all the diet works a treat, i was very pleased with the results and found it easy. But i'm not reviewing the diet i'm reviewing the book. The book is great if you want to know the in's and out's of the science behind the Atkins theory. I personally thought even though it made sense it dragged on. I just wanted to get to the part were i started to lose weight. Eventually i came to about three pages in the book with lists of foods that were allowed on the Atkins diet.
To be honest i could have probably googled the information and not bothered with the book but it is nice to hear it from the doctors mouth.

This book sets out to give recipes that are nutritious. This sounds dull, but actually the food is very good and the little bits of information about minerals and vitamins in food were very useful. I like cooking, and this is a 'cook's book'; she gives little tips on cooking, and - as a fairly experienced cook - I did find them helpful. Yes, she does tell you to roast and grind your cumin, but one can always take short cuts. Preparation does not take ages. Frying in a skillet is the norm, but then how would you get an intense flavour without it? The beauty is that there are no tins of condensed soup etc (well, yes in the tuna casserole, but I forgive her that). This is proper, healthy food. The one element that didn't suit me was the enormous vegetarian ... Read More:

Granted, this book has some nice recipes BUT most of the recipes require LOADS of ingredients, with as many herbs and spices as you can shake £20 at!
(oh and the cheap eats sections is a joke in itself!)
Also, most of the meals are for 4 people and take about 40 minutes to cook, why? student mealtime averages out to be at 2-3am, not family dinner time at all!
Good book, but they need a pinch of common sense and a sprinkle of budget

I first read this book in 2005 and have referred to it on many occasions since. It is an excellent guide to a range of health conditions.
I recommend it as an absolute must for anyone interested in improving and maintaining their health. Holford separates myth from fiction, tackling subjects such as The Fats of Life, The Protein Controversy, Sugar - the Sweet Truth and Conquering Cancer. Whether you are reviewing your nutrition from a prevention, maintenance or therapy perspective, Holford tackles the many key questions and provides detailed guidance on how to put together a balanced diet. Vitamin and mineral supplements are put under close scrutiny, their synergistic and antagonistic effects are explained and a nutrient fact file describes the effect, deficiency ... Read More:

Newly diagnosed with diabetes, I was looking for some help counting carbs to offset my medication. I'm a real foodie with a passion for cooking (and eating!)so I was really disappointed when the 3 or 4 other books I had ordered were all American based with cup measurements and ingredients I hadn't heard of.
I ordered this (used) book from Amazon and I haven't looked back. It's clear, concise, easy to follow and full of useful everyday recipes.
It offers recipes for breakfast drinks, hot breakfast, cold breakfast, soups, fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, side dishes and vegetarian, as well as desserts!!
I'm always a bit dubious about reviewers who say things like "my bible" but this has really given me a great basis for planning my weekly menus.
I received this as a gift and despite the fact that I have more cookery books at home than I know what to do with I have made good use of this one. The recipes are easy to follow and are illustrated, which I find helpful as I like to know what I'm aiming for. I thoroughly recommend the oven baked soy marinated cod (I make this regularly now) and also the Wok-It Chinese Chicken salad.
I actually find it a shame that they have included the words 'low fat' into the cover - this will probably lead some people to assume the recipes are tasteless, which they certainly are not! Even if you are not on a diet you will enjoy creating the recipes in this book and I defy you not to find one you will want to make again!
