This book sets out to give recipes that are nutritious. This sounds dull, but actually the food is very good and the little bits of information about minerals and vitamins in food were very useful. I like cooking, and this is a 'cook's book'; she gives little tips on cooking, and - as a fairly experienced cook - I did find them helpful. Yes, she does tell you to roast and grind your cumin, but one can always take short cuts. Preparation does not take ages. Frying in a skillet is the norm, but then how would you get an intense flavour without it? The beauty is that there are no tins of condensed soup etc (well, yes in the tuna casserole, but I forgive her that). This is proper, healthy food. The one element that didn't suit me was the ... Granted, this book has some nice recipes BUT most of the recipes require LOADS of ingredients, with as many herbs and spices as you can shake £20 at!
(oh and the cheap eats sections is a joke in itself!)
Also, most of the meals are for 4 people and take about 40 minutes to cook, why? student mealtime averages out to be at 2-3am, not family dinner time at all!
Good book, but they need a pinch of common sense and a sprinkle of budget

I decided to try out this book after gaining 2 and a half stones over several years.Having never dieted before, I wasn't sure how to go about it, but didn't want to crash diet or begin a faddy, unhealthy diet.
I ordered this book in January and it has been invaluable. It sets out the principles of the GI hip and thigh diet - low fat, low calories, high GI eating, and is very easy to follow. It explains the pitfalls of crash dieting and also explains the importance of exercise in losing weight. While not following the recipes in the book, the principles behind the eating plan seem sound and are not difficult to follow - with a bit of willpower.
I do feel there is some over-emphasis in the book on marketing her other products, such as her portion ... Read More:

I have just ordered a replacement copy of this book. I have had my original copy since it first came out in the 1980's,but it is so worn out due to use. I have made most of the soup recipes over and over. The tomato soup recipe is the simplest ever - not having to skin the tomatoes - it all goes in and what with hand blenders that can go straight into the pot, soups are soon ready, taste so fresh and nicer than the tin variety. This book is not just about soups though, there are starters, main courses, cakes, puddings/desserts etc. I am not a vegetarian, but think every keen cook would benefit from having a copy of this book.

Just read the updated version of this book. I loved the original book. This includes a section on how Dr Mike Stroud and Sir Ranulph Fiennes (listed by the Guniess Book of Records as the greatest living explorer)complete seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. This was several months after Sir Ralph had heart surgery.
These two were also the first two men to walk to both poles unaided. Mike Stroud is a highly acclaimed nutritionist and works with the UK's Famous (or infamous ???) SAS. Together with Helen Klein they also completed the ECO challeng when Helen was 72. A year later Mike had trained his 70 year old Dad who was healthy though only through hill walking to do the ECO challenge also. Its a book about the extremes the human body ... Read More:

I received this as a gift and despite the fact that I have more cookery books at home than I know what to do with I have made good use of this one. The recipes are easy to follow and are illustrated, which I find helpful as I like to know what I'm aiming for. I thoroughly recommend the oven baked soy marinated cod (I make this regularly now) and also the Wok-It Chinese Chicken salad.
I actually find it a shame that they have included the words 'low fat' into the cover - this will probably lead some people to assume the recipes are tasteless, which they certainly are not! Even if you are not on a diet you will enjoy creating the recipes in this book and I defy you not to find one you will want to make again!

My Mother in Law gave me this book for christmas as I was interested in the slimming world diet. What a fantastic book, just as it says 30 minute meals that are easy to to cook and taste delicious. As yet nothing has failed us, infact we have even tried recipes that we would not normally try. I have shown this to a few friends and thay love it and have also ordered it.

Really good book on fitness. Makes it so easy to read and has a step by step timestable which you follow to get to peak fitness and realistic targets. Great how he emphasises the correct food to eat even with a timetable on what you should eat from breakfast to dinner and even turns into a little cook book with recipes and shopping lists haha. Worth gettin and its great because you will get fit reading it and offers some good advice

I tried a low-carb diet last year (with "Idiot Proof Diet") and lost lots of weight. However, I love cooking and I love food and so came off the diet and put all the weight back on eventually (of course).
When I became miserable enough with myself I had to reconsider the low-carb route. This time I decided to buy a couple of books to allow myself more variety and I bought this along with the recipe book that is now available alongside the Idiot Proof Diet (very, very good recipes too).
I definitely wouldn't want to be without this recipe book as everything I have tried turns out well and for instance means we can still have lasagne and pizza!

I was hugely disappointed with this book - particularly with the photography of the finished dishes - it's redolent of the quality you'd find in a 1970's cookbook - the food looks totally unappetising.
I love cookery books and looked forward to this arriving but can honestly say I'll be lucky to use 2-3 recipes if that. Uninspiring with an over reliance on a few ingredients.
Sorry, but wouldn't recommend this to anyone who really enjoys cooking.
