The book is well-written and contains enough information and facts for anyone not familiar with the subject to acquire a good knowledge. As a general over-view it is very useful.

A Forgotten Miracle indeed, as is this book an undiscovered miracle for all who have more than a passing interest in this fine drink.Affectionately written this book goes into great detail on the history and traditions of Cider and Cider making, including Histories on Burrow Hill Cider Farms and the Somerset Cider Company. The illustrations and Poetry are particuarly enjoyable. A lovely book.

Being a book about Real Ale, you won't find any lager recipes in here. Just as well, as properly brewed lagers are more dificult to brew at home. This makes the book an excellent entry into home brewing, having instructions for extract, partial mash and full mash brewing. The recipes are clear and easy to understand and make a good basis for creating your own beers once you've gained a bit more confidence. The anecdotes about the history of different types of beers make this book more interesting than a straight instruction book. I would also recommend the CAMRA Guide to Hoembrewing and Brew Classic European Beers at Home by the same author.

When it comes to wine, this book really IS my Bible! All in all, the most well-rounded and informative book on the subject I've ever looked at. It does of course feature an extensive info and review section for a large variety of wines, but that is not it's strongest point... What really make this book the. Excellent for beginners as well as experts as it packed full of advise on tasting and making the most out of whatever you're drinking. It can be said, without fear of contradiction, that this author knows her stuff!

My name is Jason Vale and I am the author of this book. I don't usually look at my own reviews, but decided to take a little look.
I wrote this book some time ago and I have to agree with some of the comments. The recipe names are extremely bad puns and I cringe myself when I look back at them. I have changed them, but that won't be until the next print run. I have never pretended to be the best writer in the world and I write my books with everyone in mind. One comment I don't agree with at all is the one about this book being copied from Leslie Kenton. I think Leslie is a great author of health, but my books and hers are very different. You will notice that I have only given my own book 3 stars. That's because I feel that's all the book ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this book. The writer has done a remarkable job alluding to the historic background to brewing and describing the remarkable variety of brews. I particularly liked the sections on 'local hostelries' around the country, this gave a good insight to the great diversity of beers throughout each region.
I am sure the Mr. Jones would make a great drinking partner in any situation!

An up to date survey of this region was needed and this concise guide provides it. There is a good survey of Chablis putting the wine into its historical context and charting its ups and downs over the centuries. The domaine profiles are informative (and provide a good balance of detail) as are the vintage notes. A very useful reference book and well written.

A fabulous read. Unlike many other vegan authors, Erik Markus makes the case for veganism (extremely well) by stating the facts. The book is all the more powerful for the matter of fact approach Markus adopts. Buy it now. If you're thinking about becoming vegan, this book will confirm time and again, that you'll be making the right choice.
