A fabulous read. Unlike many other vegan authors, Erik Markus makes the case for veganism (extremely well) by stating the facts. The book is all the more powerful for the matter of fact approach Markus adopts. Buy it now. If you're thinking about becoming vegan, this book will confirm time and again, that you'll be making the right choice.

I've yet to find a book that can come close to C. J. J. Berry's 'First Steps in Winemaking', which is excellent for both beginner and established brewer alike.
'125 Unusual Recipes' makes a good effort though, with a good introduction detailing techniques and equipment followed by a comprehensive list of weird and wonderful recipes which you are unlikely to encounter elsewhere else!
One thing to be wary of is that the quantities given are in U.S. imperial measurers, which will require conversion to UK units if you intend to fill a 4.5 litre demijohn.

REAR COVER QUOTE from JANE GRIGSON:- "Every time we begin to feel fussed by the cookery elaborators with their flashy tricks and colour photos, we can restore confidence by returning to Elizabeth David." From Artemis Cooper's 'Writing at the Kitchen Table', pg 307 - 'An Omelette and a Glass of Wine' delighted Elizabeth's legion of fans. This book is written with a great deal of love and understanding of sherry and the people who made the trade in it so successful. It is a fascinating insight into how the popularity of sherry developed, and how the winemakers have coped with change and development. The fifth edition is as fresh as the first, written after the author's stay in Jerez in 1956.

This book is one that I wished for for years. I didn't it existed until I bought Sally Fallons book. I have always wanted to know more about fermentation and this book clearly describes a lot of way of fermenting various veggies and how to make sourdough etc.
There is no meat and fish in there, but I sure do hope that Sandor will also write a book on the meat and fish fermenting topic. I would surely buy it.
Back to the roots is how I would call it, and with that, back to a better health.
