My book arrived today and I have to tell you that I dropped everything
to spend a couple of hours reading it.
It is quite simply the best cook book I have ever seen, and I have quite
a few from Larousse through Gordon Ramsay to Elizabeth David. The
photos are beautifully composed and presented, and the writing is
clearly from the heart, but the way it actually shows the reader how to
achieve things is excellent.
My favourite book before this was Conran's cookbook because it devoted
a third of the book to choosing the right produce and demonstrating
preparation techniques, but this book is well ahead of that one.
I first came across rose Elliott's Bean Book when I was at University and I literally taught myself to cook from it and survived on a very slender budget by cooking all her wonderful, cheap and tasty bean recipes.
My original copy was falling to pieces so I've just bought this new edition -- and i still love it! The warmth and friendliness of the book are very encouraging and the recipes are lovely.

I'm not a vegetarian, but a vegetarian friend showed me her copy of this book, and I just had to buy it. Every recipe I've tried works fantastically well, and whenever I use the recipes to entertain, they are extremely well received. A number of my friends have now bought the book too. I'm definitely going to buy more of Rose Elliot's books.

As a Professional chef, I am pleased that I can still find books that are truly inspirational and helpful. If you need to learn basic fish teqniques then this book you should buy. Rick knows what he's talking about especially when it comes to fish.
The book is divided into 3 parts. It starts with easy step by step techniques with photos of how to prep, cut and cook a variety of fish. The second part gives you recipes to try when you have mastered the techiques and then follows the third part which is gives detailed information and diagrams of fish varieties complete with their latin names.
I truly recommend this book for anybody who wants to learn new skills whether professional or amateur. It has helped me when producing ... Read More:

A true Master Chef - I own practically all Gary Rhodes cookery books and use them quite regularly. As with all his books, the recipes are accurate, and, as far as I am concerned, all translate from book to plate perfectly. Here is a true and committed cook, unafraid to pass on not only his wonderful recipes but many techniques that the reader is lucky enough to learn without putting in the years that this Michelin star hero has invested. The book makes wonderful food reading if the purchase is for that reason only.

What a delight to find this book. All of the other reviewers are spot on with their championing of this treasure-trove of gorgeous recipes. As with her other books, Roden gives amusing and interesting anecdotes while relating the recipes and you can imagine the communities and individuals whence the recipes derive.
It is a must for any kitchen, with informal and easy to follow recipes making effortlessly delicious meals and treats.
I have a few recipe books by Rose Elliot (some from years ago, but more recently The Bean Book and Veggie Chic). I like her ideas, although at times they can become predictable. However, this is a good book and has some excellent quick meal ideas. Great for anyone in a hurry who needs to avoid yet another boring sarnie.

This was the first book I bought by Ainsley Harriott and up to now all of the recipes I have tried have been fantastic. You seriously can't go wrong with his recipes!
If you do buy this book, please, please try his Tikka Massala, it's to die for. I can guarantee you will think twice about ordering a curry from the local Indian Takeaway once you have tried Ainsleys! My husband and I made it for 20 hungry RAF personnel and it went down a storm!!
I would also recommend the salmon fish cakes, cheesy fish pie, the quiche recipe...oh the list goes on.
I always turn to this book when I'm not too sure what to make for our evening meal and we are never disappointed with the results, it truly is a fantastic asset to any kitchen.
