I love reading this cookbook. I love how the book has different ideas for different feasts. I made the jewelled cupcakes for christmas. They were really marvellous and looked just like the picture. Everyone who came home during Christmas loved them... they looked fantastic and tasted even better..

I've only made two cakes from the book so far but, they both turned out scrummy. Lovely pictures and clear instructions. There is a great section which explains cake tin dimensions and gives basic baking instructions. I can't wait to make more cakes from this book!

I received this as a gift and despite the fact that I have more cookery books at home than I know what to do with I have made good use of this one. The recipes are easy to follow and are illustrated, which I find helpful as I like to know what I'm aiming for. I thoroughly recommend the oven baked soy marinated cod (I make this regularly now) and also the Wok-It Chinese Chicken salad.
I actually find it a shame that they have included the words 'low fat' into the cover - this will probably lead some people to assume the recipes are tasteless, which they certainly are not! Even if you are not on a diet you will enjoy creating the recipes in this book and I defy you not to find one you will want to make again!

It is always a sheer pleasure to read his books. But this one stands out: it starts off with his diary, and gradually shows you traditional French cuisine (and a few exotic dishes French people eat). The book itself has a calm and nostalgic tone in the background (one pity is not all recipes have a picture of the finished dish. So unless you have seen the programme, it is difficult to see if you got it right)
I do know that some poeple were a little puzzled / annoyed, and I did feel the same when, in this programme, he highly praised French cuisine and by contrast slugged off Britain and its food culture a little ... specially this programme was made right after his "Food Heroes in Britain" where he had praised British produce and ... I've just gone back through this cookbook as what put me off to start with is the lack of pictures for every dish, however in recent weeks I've made several of the recipes - the roasted goats cheese vegetable couscous is a real hit and the leg of lamb wih rosemary is a stunning summer dish. This is a great cookbook for summer - and fairly health conscious too - I hadn't realised Delia is a weight watcher!

When I bought this book I was hoping for a book with simple easy to make recipes (soups should be easy I think). Some of the recipes are just too overcomplicated.

Some years ago, I gave up buying cookbooks. I had shelves of them, and as friend said to me recently, '"People only ever get round to making five recipes from every new cookbook they buy.'"
But a few months ago, feeling the urge for something new, I treated myself to Kitchen Diaries. Now, even if you didn't make a single dish from it, Nigel Slater is a great writer and this is going to be one of the great foodie classics. You can settle down on the sofa with Nigel like you settle down with Elizabeth David.
But I'm finding that I'm using this book to cook with three or four times a week. These are great, practical, seasonal, cheap, easy delicious things to cook every day. Tonight, it was sausages and squash (must have taken all of five minutes ... Read More:

This is a stalwart in my kitchen. In fact I may have to buy another copy because some of the most used pages are now stuck together and the cover is a distant memory. In this book there is something for every occasion from the simple to the incredibly technical. Each recipe is well laid out and easy to follow and the whole thing is a joy.
The only recipe I have ever had a problem with is the chocolate brownies, but I think that's down to my brownie pan. Everything else I have ever tried has been 100% perfect. The Autumnal Birthday cake is a particular highlight in our family, as is the dense chocolate loaf cake. My particular favourite is the dark chocolate mousse cake, which sounds complicated but really isn't and is well worth a go.
