I love the Australian Women's Weekly baking series and collect them all as they come out. This is a small book but there are lots of fantastic recipes. A lot of the recipes do contain coconut, fruit or nuts although if you're not a fan on nuts etc you can reduce the amount or leave them out completely and the slices still come out great (I've tried it!).
I don't have any complaints about this book - the recipes are all UK-friendly and don't require any conversion. They are easy to follow even for beginners. Slices are a great alternative to cakes and biscuits and this book has a nice variety of slices in a variety of textures e.g. go-ey luscious choc macadamia squares, crumbly chocolate rum & raisin slices (just made these ... A lovely book from Lindy Smith who is very similar in style to Debbie Brown. Nice designs, a good source of inspiration for beginners and professionals.

I purchased this book over the weekend and was slightly dissapointed. Firstly as it's an american cookbook the measurments are in cup measures so if like me you don't have a cup measure don't use your mug you have your tea as this definately will not work.
My real dissapointment was that there is only ONE photo in the entire book. The only tasty think about this book is it's cover. The receipes themselves don't sound too inviting.
Personally if like me you like to see a picture of what your end result should look like (Not that mine ever look as perfected as in the picture's) then this book is not for you and definately not for me!

I have been trying to make fudge for some time now with little success, that is until I found this book. I have now made the best fudge ever tasted and have adoring fans in my four children who will do any job round the house if payment is made in fudge! One criticism is that this is written for the American fudge makers and some ingredients are unavailable or have to be substituted. I also used the conversion charts in Susan Reimer's Muffins book (another fantastic buy!) to help with weights and measures as ingredients were measured in cups.

This beautiful book contains over twenty displays of sugar orchids - sprays for cakes, plants displayed in pots, a bridal bouquet, floral arrangements. Each display contains step-by-step details for making not only the orchids but also the flowers and foliage that accompany them, from the exotic to the well-known, often little-used such as sage and silver birch! These flowers can all be made in sugar or in cold porcelain. There are templates of all the cutters used in these displays. An excellent book for all sugarcrafters.
