As an novice allotment owner, the book is very informative, and contains listings and notes on most of the varieties of each type of vegetable. The varieties are readily found in seed packets at any garden centre, and give advice as to which is best for certain conditions and yields, etc. The recipes are very good. The Irish colcannon is so simple. A great book even if you only want to grow a few things in your garden. >>More Details |

This is the type of book you want to tell people about. Trotters passion for cuisine jumps out of every page. The squab terrine is worth buying this book for alone. And how many other books cover squab so well. If you want a cook book for impressing friends when they are round to dine then this is the book. The only problem I have with this book is that everytime I thumb through it I realise I am not at Charlie Trotters restaurant. >>More Details |

Mr Salloum obviously has a great love of and knowledge of the cuisines that he presents. There are fascinating personal stories and historical snippets. The art work is beautiful and all the recipes sound mouthwatering. I really could not resist making 'gazelles ankles' just for the bizarre name. They were easy to make, delicious but just a tad too sweet for my palate. The story attached by Mr Salloum made a great introduction to my work colleagues when I made the ankles to take to a meeting at work. I thoroughly recommend this book.

by Lyndsay and Patrick Mikanowski Potatoes are not generally viewed by the masses as a delicacy and this staple of many households is given a makeover in this reference book. The photography by Grant Symon is breathtaking and the text leads the reader through the history, growing tips, varieties (potato portraits), and recipes (simple, classic and new). I've had this book a few months now and they all taste so good I am takng the trouble to say YES! Don't be put off by the rather high cost of the ingredients on average it costs about £[...] to make 1 pound of vice cream but the results are definitely worth it, so be good to yourself.

Having visited South India I was looking for a book which would allow me to attempt to recreate the food I ate while there. This book is perfect. Everything I have attempted has been delicious and reminiscent of the flavours I enjoyed there. The book covers a variety of snacks, sambars & rasams, poriyals, salads, chutneys, rice dishes and desserts. Whilst some ingredients are difficult to source unless you have an Asian grocer locally the majority are relatively easy to obtain.
Highly recommended if you are familiar with South Indian cuisine or if you would like to try a different style of Indian cookery than the more familiar North Indian curries. >>More Details |
