I bought this book simply because making cheese at home was something I always wanted to have a go at, but never knew where to start. I mean, I know I can go to a cheese-making suppliers, and buy kits, and get recipes off the internet, but what I wanted was just all the details of what I would need and how to go about making cheese, all in one easy chunk.
Enter this book. Quite simply, it is fantastic. There is the right amount of detail at all stages to tell you what you need to do, and what you need to get hold of. The section on the various processes involved in making cheese was perfect, aimed not to high or low, and explained everything exceptionally well. The recipes which finish this book are a good selection, even if ... Read More:

I've rarely used my slow cooker in the past, except for beef chilli for my husband. I had limited expectations (although I don't know why), but this book has turned up trumps.
There's a whole mix of recipes (1-2 hours, 6hrs, savoury, sweet) and most include everyday ingredients that probably hit your shopping list anyway.
A few recipes;
Lentil Dhal with onion, cumin and garlic
Spicy Chick Peas in a a tomato sauce with rosemary
Vegetable Casserole with thyme and cheese dumplings
Spiced Couscous with apricots, feta and pine nuts
Butter Bean and Pasta Casserole with gremolata
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Some recipes require you to fiddle a fair bit but most recipes are a total breeze, and ideal ... Read More:

In Jane Grigson's Vegetable Book, American readers, gardeners and food lovers will find everything they've always wanted to know about the history and romance of 75 different vegetables, from artichokes to yams, and learn how to use them in hundreds of different recipes, from the exquisitely simple Broccoli Salad to the engagingly esoteric Game with Tomato and Chocolate Sauce.
Jane Grigson gives basic preparation and cooking instructions for every one of the vegetables discussed, and recipes for eating them in every style from least adulterated to most adorned, but this is by no means a book intended for vegetarians alone. There are recipes for Cassoulet, Chicken Gumbo and even Dr. William Kitchiner's 1817 version of Bubble and Squeak (fried ... Read More:

I have owned this book for several year,it was the first cookbook I bought after going vegan. I have used it so much it's falling apart and badly stained with chocolate and sauces. I highly recommend this book.It's refreshing,fun and the recipes are spectacular. I recently got married and moved to another country where vegan restaurants are zero.I have had to cook every day for me and my husband who had never had vegan food until I came along. I have impressed him so much with my cooking,most being recipes from this book,that he is now (mostly)vegan(he's working on the last bit).
If I can turn a meat-eating Dane,where the word vegan is only very recently being heard,with these recipes,I think that anyone will love them,too.

This is one of the main books I use for weekday cooking - the recipes are easy, quick to prepare and make use of ingredients that you have in your cupboard or fridge. Don't expect sensational and spectacular dinner party solutions in here, because this is not the book to wow your guests with; however, it does result in healthy, hearty recipes that taste very good and nutritious in a traditional, simple sort of way, perfect for the weekday cook who does not have 3 hours to whip up a meal. This isn't a book with long lists of ingredients - in fact, its simplicity of ingredients and seasonings is just what I like about it. On those nights when your fridge is empty and the shop is closed or you just can't be bothered to go to one, this book will provide you with numerous suggestions ... Read More:
