Every vegetable is available in a number of different varieties. But which varieties to choose? In the case of most veg, choosing is fairly simple and is fun; it usually takes a couple of evenings going through the seed catalogues when preparing next season's seed order. But potatoes are special. Knowing - really knowing - about the different varieties available, along with their strengths and weaknesses, is necessary, fascinating, fun, rewarding and strangely addictive. And of course this reseach really pays off come harvest time. The best way to learn about potatoes - the varieties available, their characteristics, the difference between 1st earlies, 2nd earlies, maincrop, the growing techniques, etc. - is to read this invaluable book. ... I absolutely love this book - it really is the best veggie cookbook I've ever come across!
All too often the angle is that if you're veggie you must be a) doing it to be healthy (in which case the recipe book neglects the gloriously calorific, cheesy, doughy stuff in favour of stiff, crunchy vegetables) or b) doing it and having difficulty (in which case you basically get fifty recipes for Shepherd's Pie except with quorn mince substitute).
It's not the book for you if you want millions of mouthwatering pictures, it's very wordy indeed - but personally I like that, and the advice given is so good it's a sure compensation. The author possibly likes the sound of her own voice a bit, mixing in family anecdotes and jokes ... Read More:

A very very well written and informative read about vegetarian cooking to suit all budgets.
The book is packed to the brim of tips to cater for all levels of cooking ability, it's ideal for the student or novice vegetarian chef alike as it targets people who've never cooked before and includes many great recepies that don't cost an awful lot.
I suggest buying two copies as you'll not doubt wear the first one out long before your tired of it.
The book also contains the seedling symbol as it's been approved by the Vegetarian Society.
