Absolutely, totally, and amen to all that. Webb is THE beer writer in English and anybody interested in beer should have this book. And make the pilgrimage. What sets this book apart, apart from the density of knowledge, which is formidable, is the quality and texture of the opinion, which is deft, witty, ironic, fun, and - probably more important than any of these - solidly based in 25 years of research - it's a hard job, but somebody has to do it....

George Moudiotis has gathered a rich and varied collection of Greek recipes and presents them with a dgree of wit and humour very rare in such a book. This is one of my favourite cookery books. It is a ludicrous bargain at its price. Unlike other reviewers, however, I find myself rebalancing ingredients in some recipes - but then I would do that, I suspect, whoever wrote the book. It is a wonderfully enjoyable book, full of character and atmosphere.

This is not a bad guide, but nothing amazing. It is a little let down by a poor layout design, which makes it quite hard to read - it is disappointing that a book like this couldn't include more labels and images. Also, it is unexpected that there is no full colour printing!
There a few good finds in the book - the best thing is that it is quite easy to find majority of the wines in particular supermarkets and the average cost of the wines are definitely cheap. At a guess I would say about over half would be around the £4-7 mark. There aren't many 'fine wines' in the book, but it is definitely good for a few supermarket bargains. >>More Details |
