This machine takes forever to make very bad toast. The bread is dried to staleness and (on the very lengthy settings) slightly browned. The only thing I can compare it to is horrible american hotel toast, but it's even worse than that.
It's obviously a gross design flaw -- the thing is ridiculously underpowered. The element barely glows. Kenwood must have gone out of their mind to pollute their brand with this rubbish. Don't they test? Is there no-one with a "Toast Taste Test" job title? Oh, and the slots are too small for anything except a slightly undersized sandwich loaf. So you need to do each end individually. Lets face it, an electric kettle doesn't have to fulfill too many tasks; heat up water and allow it to pour out without scalding the person holding it.
Well fortunately it can boil the water, but unfortunately the ill-fitting lid which has been spewing hot water out almost since the day we got it, finally did cause a nasty scalding. The kettle has been in use for less than a year, and frankly has appaling build quality. We bought it to match our kitchen; this has proved to be a very bad reason to buy a kettle. A friend of mine had one of these and I was wondering why I had never discovered it before. As a banana lover, there's nothing more disappointing than turning up at work and finding mush or a battered banana in your fruit bag.
So I bought it, tried it and think it's great! So far I haven't found a banana that doesn't fit, I can finally stop throwing away fruit and finally get to enjoy my banana breaks. People mention the weird looks from colleagues/friends/family and what others may say. This is my second spare in 6 years.
The only reason I bought a new one is that my old one became discolored. Best warm the glass prior to use boiling water. Great in the diswasher, no more discolored glass. >>More Details |

I can't comment on the taste of the water as I am lucky enough to receive relatively fresh tasting water on tap. The filtered water therefore makes little difference. The water here is quite hard though. After 10 years faithful service I decided to upgrade to this fridge door friendly type and threw out my old Brita Classic.
In the last 4 months (since moving to the new type of filter), light use of my seven year old kettle has seen it's element going from looking brand new to now being completely covered in chunks of crusty limescale. I am still in my same house and the only thing that has changed is the filter I use for the water. Oh my god, what a waste of money!
I use salt and pepper mills and was fed up of wiping the grains off the table, so when I saw this lil fella I thought I was sorted! How wrong I was, it can't even suck up small grains of salt! I stick to using a clean damp dishcloth, it works the best! >>More Details |
