Having now heard her album, to compare her to Lily Allen is a travesty. Adele is far better, her smooth voice and song writing skill for starters...
And whilst we're on the subject of comparisons, there's only one similarity to Amy Winehouse - and that is I love both of their albums, when my expectations were low.
Daydreamer: A chilled, melodic start to her debut album, but on first listen you kinda want to skip it to speed up your new listening experience. This is definitely one of those tracks you have to listen to a few times. Vocally she is very good.
Best For Last: Sounds quite bluesy, simple yet effective guitar backing throughout the beginning. Then the song gets going, catchy, warming and just ... Read More:

Glass's violin concerto is pleasant and immediately accessible. But, Glass's music is all very similar; its as if there is a number of ideas which get continously re-cycled. To my mind, Adams' concerto is stronger

I really don't understand what the fuss is about with 'Chasing Pavements'. When there are female singers like Amy Winehouse, KT Tunstall, Shirley Manson and Dolores O'Riordan around we don't need a mediocre tune. We need something from them, and if not them, someone with a good strong and a voice with some personality.
This is the thing. It's a pretty average song; perphaps if better singers made it their own, then it would be a different story. But her voice is (it's got to be said) boring. She isn't a musician, but someone who got lucky. I think that we should celebrate the talented musicians, rather than the choosen.
I do realise that everyone loves this song, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Thank you for reading

My brother played me this a couple of weeks ago and I was blown away!
I am amazed at the other reviewers of this single who complain it doesn't go anywhere. Where exactly do you want it to go? For me it goes where it has to go, which for me is the land of the perfectly constructed pop single, where things are powerful, emotive, uplifting, poignant.
In my ever so humble opinion the perfect single is the art of the distillation of beauty in a song and I think that this is a perfect example of that.
Blimey, this is a record from someone who is only 19. What does the future hold? Most impressive !

This series, produced by EMI in the days of LPs, is one of the great achievements of the gramophone - they rightfully belong up there with the Decca Ring, the EMI Callas series, and any other candidates you care to name. Together they provide a truly comprehensive survey of singing right through the age of recording up to the early days of the LP. Sadly, to the best of my knowledge, only Volumes 3 & 4 have appeared on CD - the very earliest era of recording and the period up to the introduction of electrical recording methods that were originally on Volumes 1 and 2 really deserve to be heard again.
Volume 3, the collection under discussion here, covers the period from 1926-1939. This was a veritable Golden Age of Singing - in Wagner it was the era of ... Read More:

For those that are looking for Duffy, go find her and stop hating on this lovely 20 year old woman! She's got the kind of voice that will take over when Alison Moyet decides to chuck it in - which I hope is never!
Adele sings from the heart with soul, pure soul, the kind of old soul in a fresh body that comes along once in a lifetime - she has a long road to go to be the next Moyet...but she's on the right track with her album and the singles...and the cover song on this single - purely fantastic...
I can't hate on Duffy...but she does sound like old 1960's Dusty Springfield, which isn't a bad thing...but it sounds like that's all she's got...enjoy Adele for Adele...and the Whiskey voice is a refreshing today as Karen Carpenter was in the 70's - go ahead ... Read More:
