The journalist Craig Seymour (in his bio on Luther) didn't rate this album, so I bought it with some trepidation.
Well, I don't think Craig coud have been more wrong. Some of Luther's vocals on these tracks are amongst his BEST ever performances. As ever, he sounds incredible, but with a Gospel intensity on the ballads; at times he's truly singing the chandelier right off the ceiling !!
It must have been electrifying in the studio. And his jazz-funk take on My Favourite Things is worth the price of admission alone... All the usual crew are there (Cissy, Cindy, Brenda, Lisa, Kevin, Marcus, Nat et al).
It's an excellent Christmas album that's loaded with soul plus some funny moments; listen out for the ... Read More:

I really love Luthers older music but this final album really blown me away, all the tracks are fantastically written and performed by Luther, u know your in for a great album when u see the name Luther Vandross, it's very easy to get lost in another world while listening to this album. Theres a couple of tracks that stand out on this album 1 is (Buy Me A Rose) which is just brilliant Luthers soulful voice really does shine through on this song, and of course the 2nd stand out track is (Dance With My Father) now this for me is one of the best songs ever written, Luther co wrote this track with Richard Marx, and as a result of the writting talent this song was produced and what a song it is, Great vocals once again by Luther and very touching ... Luther Vandross embodied the soul slow ballad - the idle album for a candlelit dinner. One of my friends used to label his music as "foreplay music" and this album is an apt description. I remember going thru a bad breakup at the time and listening to "If Only for One Night" - does u up badly because it is such a good song. Other gems are "Here and Now" - the perfect wedding song, as well as "If this World Were Mine". Mamma Mia, soul from the soul.

I felt driven to write a review of this superb album here after reading the bizarrely ambiguously two-starred one before me. I miss Luther in the same way as I miss Marvin, both of whom, in my opinion, came from some higher plain to visit us and leave something that would make our lives better.
The effortless way in which Luther Vandross delivers a song can leave you breathless just witness the opening track Love the One You're With and Killing Me Softly ( with his song).
this is not just one artist's interpretation of other people's songs these are chosen and obviously the songs all mean something very special to Luther. This album could very well become a desert island disc.

I bought this album not really expecting to much from it,alright, there was the chart material that most people know and enjoy, but I was pleasently surprised to discover that this compilation is of a very high standard and consistently so.Luther genuinely had a fantastic voice, with a superb soulful delivery to equal the best in this genre. Some very catchy numbers with fantastic eighties sounds. If you like eighties R'n'b pop, this album or an album by this artist is an absolute must.I feel songs such as 'Never to much' deserve to be recognised as genuine classics in the pop genre.A very enjoyable album.
