As a mere stripling of seventeen years old, Steve Ellis set the charts alight as lead vocalist with the Love Affair. Since then, Steve has been buffeted by the blasts of music fashion and personal mishaps that would've put a more delicate soul in a care home. This album is a copper-bottomed cracker, though, with Ellis in peerless vocal form - try Nu Clear Blues or Requiem For A Tyrant for starters. The guy has still got an immacualte set of blue-eyed soul vocal pipes, and I hope that the album does well enough for him to keep on keepin' on. They don't make 'em like this anymore, and what we've got left, we should treasure.

Last Tango in Bradford is by no means Steve Ellis' last gig. Pure enjoyment. His voice never looses its amazing power, sensuality and all the feelings that lyrics command. All these years down the road and here is the best and most underrated singer this country (and beyond!) has ever produced still delivering big time. A must have.

All of us Sixties children will remember Steve as the excellent and powerful voice (and female heart-throb) behind several chart hits by The Love Affair - 'Everlasting Love,' 'Rainbow Valley' etc. Here we have a great album from Steve and friends, who include Albert Lee, Henry McCulloch, Brian Robertson, Tim Hinkley, Roger Chapman and others, and if you're old enough to recognise those names, then you'll be knocked out with this album; especially if you manage to get a 'Bonus Tracks - Basment Days' copy with 7 extra songs!

The Love Affair were a British pop group of the late sixties who had one chart-topper and several other big hits. Steve Ellis was the lead singer and was sometimes the only member of the group involved in their recordings, with the regular musicians being replaced by session musicians.
Everlasting love was an American hit for Robert Knight. I haven't heard his version but I get the impression that the Love Affair version is superior, based on the opinions of those who have heard both versions. Certainly, it is difficult to imagine how the Love Affair version, with its great horn arrangement, could be improved upon. The British public clearly loved it, as it went all the way to number one in the UK charts and it has since become a ... Read More:
