I think that ZZ Top are a very good band and they remain one of my favorite bands of all-time. this is one great collection and they made great blues music in the 1970s and the 1980s. here are my comments about most of the songs. GIMME ALL YOUR LOVING this is a really great song and is my 2nd favorite song on the entire cd. SHARP DRESSED MAN this is pretty great too, but probably my 5th favorite. ROUGH BOY is a ballad that is too slow and too sad for me. TUSH is an excellent blues rocker remains one of my 5 favorites on this album. MY HEAD'S IN MISSISSPII is a blues rocker one of my favorites, PEARL NECKLACE not my fave, IM BAD IM NATHIONWIDE this is pretty good although remains as a 10th favorite or something. I AINT CRAZY ABOUT VIVA LAS VEGAS, ... Read More:

I have been waiting for a ZZ top Live album for years. I prefer audio to DVDs as I can listen in the car and just don't have time to sit watching. So apart from the Fandango album circa 1974 this is the first Top Live album I know. Culled from the recent DVD the song captures them in their Native Texas and is exactly what it says on the tin. ZZ Top Live. it's the three piece band delivering their blues/boogie as it is and to the best of my knowledge little or nothing in the way of backing tracks. Contains the trio of MTV Eliminator songs, Gimme all your lovin, Sharp dressed man and Legs. Older tracks like Tush and Cheap Sunglasses are also included plus the popular Rough Boy. All in all it is ZZ Top Live so if you like them you will like this.

ZZ Top finally release a proper concert film and it was well worth the wait . The picture (and sound) quality are fantastic . This is just how i like to see a band , pretty much staight ahead and not to many changing cameras . They don't do anything flash they just get on with a great show .
(it's a pity Ac/dc 's No Bull isn't as good as this).

These songs alone would have made Eliminator one of ZZ Top's three greatest albums, their embrace of Rock-synths and sequencers make this a blockbuster filled with hits & pure Energy. It's still an excellent ZZ Top album, whether Fans or blues purists alike believe it or not, definitely one of their best, thanks in part to their unflaggingly accurate grooves & timing. Then again, that's part of the album's charm, this is new wave blues-rock,looking as good as the omnipresent convertible on the cover, not really the sort of old-school album blues-rock purists will love or appreciate,But one heck of a fun groove-licious album to rock your sound system to

Tres Hombres: Remastered & Expanded

by: ZZ Top
February 27, 2006

Recorded some years before the band found international success with the likes of 'Gimme All Your Lovin', to me, ZZ Top have never bested this superb slab of Texas Blues and Boogie. Billy Gibbons is a fantastic Blues guitarist - like the best, he knows what to leave out, and the Frank Beard / Dusty Hill rhythm section are rock solid, unfussy, and never put a foot wrong. All well and good, however, but what the Tops did so well was / is craft a sound that has one foot in the Blues and another in the Texas desert, a dry, arid, but musically appealing sound that is utterly timeless. Plus, when they cut loose and rock out, they do so with a kind of restrained savagery that never fails to hit the spot. 'La Grange' is great of course, but other songs like the gorgeous slow ... As with so many bands across the board, ZZ Top managed to lose their way musically at some point. This compilation sees them going from a guitar driven boogie band (disc 1) to a synth driven commercial success (disc 2). I would be surprised if dance versions of their songs was quite what they had in mind back in 1970. Its a shame but, much though I loved it on its release, I listen to Eliminator now and think how plastic it sounds and as this supplies the best tracks on Disc 2 there is little hope. My advice is to get the bands 1st 6 albums and boogie the night away. Sadly after that ZZ Top join the long list of a lot of other bands of the time, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Stones etc... who seemed to play for the love of the music once but then sacrificed this love on the alter ... I must admit I thought I would have to defend this album, at the time it was not treated maybe as kindly as it deserved. ZZ Top hit the nail on the head so well with the early 1980's album Eliminator it was always going to be seriously hard to follow.

I'm really pleased to see the other reviewers seeing this album for its worth.

The fact the Eliminator car has evolved on the cover is no accident. This album evolved in 1980's style to a more synth space age feel. This album has a few weaker tracks but in all it's a great time peace in 1980's metal. The guitars are more fuzzy than Eliminator and the electro drums add to the feel of the time.

Sleeping Bag. This is a well chosen album opener; I love the chops the rhythmic heavy sound ... Read More:

Eliminator (Collectors Edition) 2CD

by: ZZ Top
March 24, 2008

Eliminator was the real deal back then but to be re-issued with the added bonus of a few decent if patchy live tracks of their best hits and a dvd of their tube fame is worth the money alone but its a mystery why its no longer selling on amazon since it has not been issued as a limited collectors edition.

Back to the album the sound quality alone has improved a lot unlike the older eliminator album where having to turn the volume up to 11 meant only hearing the finished product at half strength whilst the legs single version is re-introduced in all of its extended glory giving the album a welcome shot in the arm which is still a hit with songs to match like "You got the six, "Give me all your lovin", "Sharp Dressed man" etc but like i say about the three bonus live ...
