other people have mentioned strangely missing 'greatest hits' tracks. but what about "Since I told you it's over" - heart-wrenching uber-pop somehow ended on the cutting room floor. Odd to say the least.

As a fan of GNR from back in the day, I was pretty skeptical about this epic. When the six or so tracks were leaked a couple of months back, I was still a little skeptical. They sounded okay, but were clearly unfinished. I got the album yesterday, and have just finished listening to it. Wow. It's quite literally the best album I've bought in years (and I buy a lot of music). Superb stuff, truly superb. How many albums do you know that feature 5 (that's 5) stand out tracks: Better, Street of Dreams, Madagascar, This I Love and Prostitute. The last three songs on the album are Madagascar, This I Love and Prostitute, building to an amazing emotional crescendo. Clearly, a lot of the material is about Stephanie Seymour. In This I Love (probably the gentlest song Axl ... Read More:

AC/DC bounce back with an album full of fun and inspiration. Featuring their most catchy songs since the early 80's, the band have gone for hooks and melodies aplenty, apparently encouraged by producer Brendan O'Brien, who has also coaxed a more soulful, rather less strained performance from a very impressive Brian Johnson. Johnson, aged 60 when Black Ice was recorded, rolls back the years with a voice which whilst weathered, sounds strong and of more texture than for many a year. He sounds powerful and shrill in the style of his 80's heyday on tunes like Big Jack and Spoilin' For A Fight, adds his traditional gritty edge to superb, bluesy lines on Decibel, and just sounds altogether fantastic on the anthemic Rock 'n' Roll Train and Money Made.
Much has been made of this album and the singles lifted from it, particularly the now grating 'Mercy' (surely a candidate for most annoying pop single of the year). Dont get me wrong I quite liked this when I heard it for the very first time but after a being force fed it by the radio several times I suddenly realised how weak it was. Its trying too hard to be something it is not ie a classic 60's pop song, its simply a pale approximation.
How she has been compared to the legendary Dusty Springfield is one of lifes great mysteries it must surely be simply a visual thing. Otherwise its like comparing cheap wool with silk. Will she be remembered in 30 years time? I doubt it.

NB's label have always released their more commercial, softer songs as singles - same as Bon-Jovi for example.
Some people have described (after the first single was released - and before they actually released Dark Horse) NB as selling out.
But as first mentioned, the more commercial and softer tracks have always been released - essentially that's what's made them the huge band they are.
But it's full of hard rocking, well produced, catchy modern pop/rock anthems & one or two fun (Rockstar-esque) or power ballads.
But what an album!
The one thing I would say - and if you're reading this, then you can do it - in this day and age you can be your own reviewer. Check bands song samples out on their sites, whether it be their official ... Read More:

This, for me personally is my favourite Coldplay album yet.
I think they're finding their sound, expressing their personality and experimenting on this album making it much more interesting, daring and individual than X&Y and even A rush of Blood.
I like this new, evolving nature in Coldplay, more of the same please!
