Hynotic, subtle and the same time wonderfully soulful this record surely sits within the top five of all time Blue Note releases. It's the ultimate late night session. The consistently wonderfully Kenny Burrell who makes the difficult sound effortlessly simple gives a masterclass in Jazz guitar playing with an endlesss tapestry of smooth licks that melt into the instinctive groove of Stanley Turrentine's sax. It's a partnership made in heaven, they work so languidly off each other on, "Mule" The way Burrell brings in the track on,"Soul lament," with his emotive twanging are classic bars of music. I am also particularly fond of the waltz tempo on,"Wavy Gravy."
This record is wonderfully focussed, Burrell's musical philosophy is stamped ... Read More:

Im amazed at how cheap these albums are as the musicianship and technical skill are so impressive. Grant Green's guitar with the vibraphone works beautifully tonally and melodically. An album for a jazz fan.

YES! This really is some smokin Jazz. When the musicians let rip on this it really does take you somewhere else.

If you like Jazz you must own this. If you like the guitar you must own this. If you like music you must own this. If you think you don't like jazz, listen to this record, and if you dont like it, you really dont like jazz.
This is REAL virtuosity on display here rather than pure technical ability. Steve Vai would give anything to play like this!

Brilliant!

This is one of the most chilled but moving albums ever. It is a perfect antidote to the stresses of existence and is a perfect counterpart to metheny's recent solo album 'one quiet night'. Pat was quoted recently saying that he is searching for something higher. This is it.

This double c.d session with pianist Sonny Clark sees both men in prime form which is jazz at it's very best.Joined by a stellar rhythm section - Sam Jones(bass) and either Art Blakey or Louis Hayes on drums they breeze through one standard after another with Green displaying that virtuoso, heavy picking, groove orientated style of playing that made him pretty unique in jazz circles.Clark also has many fine solos gradually building them in that logical, melodical style of his that became a trademark.
All tracks are at least 5 minutes long, with most in the 5-7 minute category that gives the soloists plenty of time to stretch out and create worthwhile solos and none morso than the 10 minute version of "it 'ain't necessarily so" on which Green delivers the ... Read More:

This is great - a real grower and an album to enjoy for years to come. It hasn't aged, there's plenty of space in the recording allowing the trio to work their magic around some great compositions. Recommended!

At first, I was disappointed with this purchase: I was expecting something like Metheny/Haden's 1996 collaboration Beyond the Missouri Sky, which this isn't. Plus, it's only 43 minutes long. Jazz fans won't be disappointed, though, as Ornette Coleman's free-style influence is much in evidence. Even the cacophanous The Calling illustrates just how versatile Metheny’s work can be, and the moody Horace Silver ballad Lonely Woman hints at what he and Haden were later to achieve with Missouri Sky. These songs have grown on me, but probably one for Metheny trainspotters only.

Very mellow, very cool and very retro - If you're unfamiliar with Mr.Green, you may be surprised as many of the beats have been sampled, or will be familiar from TV advertising and period dramas....

Recorded on November 16, 1964, Grant Green's "Street of Dreams" is the third of four Blue Note albums featuring the guitar-organ trio of Grant Green, Larry Young and drummer Elvin Jones. The first album, Grant Green's "Talkin' About," featured only the aforementioned trio, but on the other three dates, a different musician was brought in for each session to form memorable quartets. Larry Young's "Into Somethin'" featured Sam Rivers on tenor sax, Grant Green's "I Want To Hold Your Hand" included Hank Mobley, and "Street of Dreams" benefited from the contributions of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes. The combinations the "Street of Dreams" quartet came up with are truly magical -- Green's smooth licks and perfect ... Read More:
