I've been a fan of Roots Manuva for a while but it only took me one listen to be sure this is the best thing he's ever done. It hasn't been off my stereo since. If you like hip-hop you need this record.

This is Emiliana Torrini's 6th album although only two were released outside Iceland. Me and Armini really bridges the gap between them with some great pop numbers and some low key acoustic tracks too. Newer to the mix is the more rockier edge in places though and it suits her voice and style.
"Big Jumps" was a great choice as a single and reminds me of summer time fun (it also reminds me of "Unemployed in Summertime" however there's absolutely genius in "Jungle Drum" which sounds like a 1960's rock anthem and will be the next single. Its very catchy. Acoustic lovers will enjoy "Bleeder", "Hold Heart" and personal favourite "Beggar's Prayer" which has a beautiful vocal section in the middle with just humming which effects ... Look, if you've given this album a poor review then stop, put on a good pair of headphones, and listen to this album properly without skipping tracks. Quite frankly this is the most moving thing I've heard for a long time.

Estelle has a good voice no doubt about it and American Boy is one of the songs of the summer. Sadly, such elements have failed to contribute to a memorable album which feels like a rushed cash in with production values so tired, you can ever hear them yawn!
American Boy sounded really fresh with a brilliant use of horns but the rest of the album is just derivative R&B that could have been produced by any female artist within the genre. Estelle struggles to stamp her own identity on any of the tracks and she just sounds like a vocalist singing someone else's work. Generally there is little passion and soul in this, I found myself barely noticing any differences between tracks. As a result, it feels more like lounge music than anything else. Another top notch offering of African-Latin-Indo-middle eastern influenced downtempo grooves. Although it doesnt veer far from the TC template there is more of an Afro vibe while the lyrics are more political than before. If you're already a fan get this pronto. If you dont like their previous releases you sure wont like this either.
And now for the big BUT....the quality of the packaging. Sorry to say this but it is the worst packaged CD in music history, alright.. since the mid 80s. Its a pretty shoddy cardboard sleeve which is a bit larger than your standard plastic jewel case. I had never heard of the Flobots until the single 'Handlebars' emerged on the radio. Caught by that hook at the beginning of the song and noticing some great instrumentals I thought I'd risk it and check out the album; not thinking that I would end up finding my favourite band of the year and the best album I have heard in a long long time.
What I love most about this album is the time and thought given to each element within the band; the lyrics are inspiring, clever, powerful (Without being politically preachy) and wrapped round a fantastic rhythm section. Wow................this is one of my favourite albums of all time. I first heard "Jimmy" on the radio and that was the first time i heard the work of M.I.A., me being me i bought the album and im so glad i did. Every song has it's own edge but all are great in their own way. I bought her first album not long after buying "KALA" and it also is great. Can't wait for her next one!!!

This album is brilliant, it is much better than the doctors advictate mainly because he does not go on about Dre on each track, this is his own work and it shows how good he is, there is no bad track on this album so i reccomend it highly
