I got this before going to see Van Morrison Live at Symphony Hall. The CD made up for the lack of known songs sung by Van in his live performance. It was a strange affair, he did not speak to the audience and performed a very self indulgant show. However I can't fault the CD it is great.

I've know about Ray for some time and couldn't wait to get my hands on the album. His voice is like something from a distant past of actual singer songwriters. He couldn't be more pained in some of his songs if someone had actually stabbed him with the steely shard that is love. This is a MUST have album that transacends any other artist around today. He's little known and let's keep it that way, God forbid that Radio 1 give him a rave review! Simply astounding.

Hayley Westenra, what a fantastic voice. But she sould be singing classical tracks, instead of corny old numbers like Danny Boy.
Not a good cd at all, very sad.

Not only is someone on the wrong website, it seems they're on the wrong planet! Last time I looked we were talking about the companion CD to David Essex's `All The Fun Of The Fair' musical...not descending into a vitriolic attack on one of our oldest minority ethnic communities. For good or bad, this is a free country and everyone is entitled to their opinions but please express them in an appropriate forum i.e. not this one!
For the record, this is a great collection of Essex material old and new and, while a full cast recording would still be welcome at some point, acts as a perfect reminder of a splendid theatrical event. David has much to be proud of both with the show and the songs on this CD. He has always been sorely under-rated ... Read More:

[[ASINB000LXISE6 Awake]]. I fell in love with Josh Grobans voice when I first heard him in Ally McBeal, years ago. His haunting voice made me stop in my tracks and I never forgot his voice. Years later he has just got better. This album is a lovely mix of classical and modern songs, and is best listened to at full volume so that you can sing along! This is the first album of his that I have bought, but guess whats on my xmas list!

Russell Watson! Its pretty obvious, since Russells horrendous illness, that all these young hopefulls come out of the woodwork, trying to do that bit better. Jonathan, very nice though you are, sorry mate, but you've got too much competition nowadays. no one can ever better Russells amazing voice. Need I say more?

who the hell listens to this dull, uninspiring excuse for music, it basically consists of a complete TW**!, wandering around strumming nonsensical 'happy' tunes about absolutely nothing, I just dont get it but I suppose its a measure of how completey inane and pointless the current music scene is.

Coming across this album was a joy.Having read the postive reviews in music scribes,I decicded to give it a go.Man,it hits you like a sucker punch.Wheeled in by the opening piano chords to "Fake Empire" all the way through to the hymen-like "Gospel" this is an album of serious substance.Songs like "Brainy"a tale of stalker("You know I keep your fingerprints in a pink folder in the middle of my table") and "Apartment Story"("Oh we're so disarming darling, everything we did believe
is diving diving diving diving off the balcony") stand out. This band has succeeded in not only writing great sons, but achieving a groove to them that fits Joy Division in their peak. The relentless drum beats ,coupled with the drilling bass lines make these songs tight. There are no sloppy ... Just thought I'd do my bit to reduce the ludicrously high star rating of Mr. Rice's dreary and vacuous disc. Lisa Hannigan does well to provide a good contrast to his dreadful vocals, but 'Cold Water' is the only song here of any merit; the rest is over-hyped tosh of the worst kind. May he sink into deserved obscurity as soon as possible.
