'Amazing' is the only word for Andy McKee's playing. The only other modern guitarist who comes to mind with his level of skill and ability to create whole soundscapes of magic and mystery is that of the late and much-missed Michael Hedges. Unfortunately, Amazon do not provide sound samples - but that's no problem. Search for Andy by name in Youtube and you will find a huge number of high quality recordings of him playing .... so you can hear him and also see how he does what he does. Stunning.

It's the simpleness of his warm, infectious grooves that makes Horace Silver's music so enduring. The Bossa Nova infused title track is a typical example of his ability to pen catchy rhythms, "Song for my father," is notable for Joe Henderson's blazing solo and it remains one of those Blue Note signature tunes. Each track starts with a bass note and a single piano chord before gently building into a tumultuous ebb and flow. "Calcutta Cutie," has a slighly eerie, claustrophobic feel to it and it combines well with the snaking,"Que Pasa." The liner notes on this re-issued version give an interesting insight into the rag bag of musicians that Silver used in laying down the tracks. The rather lengthy recording time and the two quintets involved ... Read More:

A stunning showcase of Hubbard's talents. For someone so young this serves as an excellent taste of what he was to become. His ranging, harmonic and sometimes downright belligerant style has always entranced me. For me this is his greatest record as a leader, the younster setting out to show eveyone what he has to offer. This record is littered with those characteristic barnstorming solos and his ability of more subtle playing on,"But Beautiful." There's a bit of everything on this from the skipping, jumpy, Horace Silveresque,"Gypsy Blue," to the classy sophisticated,"One mint Julep." Tina Brook's title track really swings. Brook's career disappeared into nothing beacause of his heroin addiction, this record shows what a wasted talent he was both ... Read More:

This CD is simply superb. I was a bit concerned about having a clarinet play Zen music, but I needn't have worried. The sound is beautiful. I have been listening to so-called "meditation" music for years, but this is by far the greatest. I find it is not a distraction, like most other music, but is instead calming and stilling. It has inspired me to buy much more of this type of music as it is only now that I realise most of my other so-called "meditation" music was simply not that at all. If you are looking for music to still your mind and create space and beauty, buy this CD. You won't be disappointed.

... Because Sony has removed it. Only the cds come into de the pocket, with their original LP Covers, very well packaged.
The only pain is that "The Lost Trident Sessions", a post-humous album available separately, has not been included.
The whole set is remarkable and a document of jazz-rock fussion second to none.

I came to this album already knowing some of Jacques Brel's songs through English translations, and I suppose I was already a sort of proxy fan. Judy Collins, Scott Walker and others popularized Brel songs in the 60's and 70's, but it was still a revelation to me when I was given a vinyl version of this album and heard them sung for the first time by the man himself. All other renditions suddenly paled in comparison with the original. Compare, for example, Terry Jacks' 'Seasons in the Sun' with 'Le Moribund', or any of the many renditions of 'If You Go Away' with 'Ne Me Quitte Pas'. No contest! There are no dud songs on this album. Some of the tunes you will recognise, and those you don't will grow on you. Brel's voice has a biting edge which is particularly suited to ... Read More:

This as hands down one of the most astonishing recordings I have ever heard. I bought it knowing a bit about tango, and a bit about Piazzolla, but regardless of that, this is incredible music. The music itself is gorgeous - dark, beautiful, ominous, brooding and deeply passionate. The playing is beyond compare - laser precise and yet at the same time gritty and rough. This is very much a band effort, and what a band - they swing, caress and whip up thunder.
Apparently this angered the tango purists in Argentina, as did much of Piazzollas output, and I can see why - this is modern, vital music, with clear influences from jazz, classical music and even the rush of punk. I must emphasise that you do not need to know much about tango to enjoy this, and also that ... Read More:

Well, I have to disagree with the other reviewers. I thought this was very disappointing. Mr. Rifkin may be a very competent pianist but he just doesn't have a "feel" for ragtime. The recordings here are plodding and pedestrian and while they may be technically very competent, there is no real personality here and no sense of fun, which is what ragtime is all about. If you like your ragtime sanitised and homogenised, this CD is for you. If you like it raw and rebellious, the way it was meant to be, give this one a miss.
