I like this album, despite the fact that a few of the tracks have a slight 'country' feel to them. The title track, well, Etta sings it like it's true, and having read her autobiography I'm sure it is. 'Love It Or Leave It Alone' is a funky, mid-tempo number that I love, while her version of 'I've Been Loving You Too Long' is as good as any I've heard, including Otis Redding's. Etta's voice is in fine form, much of the album has at least a good degree of her trademark passion (unlike a number of her recent albums), and while this isn't my favourite Ftta James CD, it IS one of the better ones, that's for sure, despite the fact that Etta herself has said she doesn't like it, apparently. I do.
